I can't draw conclusions from anectdotal evidence, even my own.

Its called a lack of conscience.
francois 02-20-08, 03:58 PM Its called a lack of conscience.
Being wealthy makes one conscienceless? Is Bill Gates, who gives away more than 1.5 billion dollars to charity per year, is conscienceless?
One possibility is for this relationship is that people who have little money have worse lives than those who have more and that it's important for them to believe that they're living their shitty lives for a reason.
Another possibility is that intelligent people earn more than dumb people and intelligent people are less religious than dumb people.
Most of my friends are very smart, Christians or Jews, and very rich.
So much for that theory.
shichimenshyo 02-20-08, 04:44 PM Yea, I Dont have any money and I'm an atheist.

How smart are they? Furthermore, your anecdotal evidence is unconvincing. Even if it were, it wouldn't prove that there's no significant relationship between intelligence and religiosity and wealth. There is, however, a great deal of data which indicate a relationship between wealth and intelligence. There's also a growing wealth of data which indicate an inverse relationship between intelligence and religiosity. Such a correlation does not mean, however, that it is impossible for one to find an intelligent, yet religious person.
It's like me saying "There's a definite statistical trend that men are both more muscular and physically powerful than women."
And then you saying "Well, I know this girl and she's really strong. Stronger than most boys I know! So much for that theory.
So much for that theory.

Here is the whole report: http://pewglobal.org/reports/pdf/258.pdf
If you read it with a little care, you might notice that in country categories comparable from one year to the next the numbers can swing wildly, making the posted margin of error suspect for supporting certain inferences.
The wealthier you are the less religious you get, except the USA.... ”
Its called a lack of conscience. So what we have been seeing in Sudan, Somalia, Rwanda, Nigeria, Indonesia, Pakistan/Bangladesh, etc, are the effects of good conscience ?
Speaking of admirably religious, notably poor places presumably not lacking in conscience, that have made the news.
Actually, one can make the case that the wealthier the US has become the more religious it has become, over all and historically - hard to say how the "conscience" part fits in, with the "Great Awakenings" of the past aligning quite well with some behavior that most people would not credit to an increase in the influence of conscience.

What the fuck? I understand you have issues with reality, but come on...
If anyone wants to discuss the topic, PM me with some points of discussion. Thread closed due to too much headache
