View Full Version : We Are Winning!
Morteza Olangui 09-15-03, 04:22 AM Hi
The rich and the poor are in war of words in World Trade Organisation meeting in Cancun, Mexico.
Seven protesters dropped their trousers on Sunday to flash their buttocks bearing the words " We Are Winning", written in lipstick.
The campaigners are short in numbers due to cost of travel to Cancun, tight security by Mexican police.
Environmentalists also dressed as dolphins to protest and what they say is maltreatment of the mammals. ( Part of a piece of news item).
As you know, I live in a country most of its inhabitants are muslims. That kind of protest here is off-limits. Apart from that, is this kind of protest, showing ones` bare buttocks, responding?
Do people in US and European states understand it? Is this kind of protest morally correct? Do these bare-buttocked individuals represent the poor?
 Thanks
Microzoft 09-15-03, 05:11 AM Protesters are protesters and it wouldn’t be too logical to have the freedom to protest BUT NOT the freedom in the way that you exercise that freedom. Provided that you do not engaged in criminal acts or to restrict the freedom of fellow humans.
Do these bare-buttocked individuals represent the poor? NO! Protesters first and most, represent themselves and indirectly “support” a general opinion against an issue.
I believe there is no organization that represents the Poor on this face of the planet!
Morteza Olangui 09-15-03, 05:29 AM Hi:
What about the organisations in Latin America? What about the leftists there? Do they not represent the poor in some extent?
What about Castro? Chavez? Organisations fighting in Chiapas, Mexico?
What about the church in north and south America? Thanks
Jolly Rodger 09-15-03, 05:37 AM protestors have given themselves a bad name for several reasons, they need to stop protesting and start being constructive. If you would like to know more on how, please ask.
hypewaders 09-15-03, 07:35 AM I'll bite: How can I be more constructive?

otheadp 09-15-03, 07:06 PM i find those that show thair buttocks are just stupid monkeys with nothing better to do. they protest for the sake of protesting... for "having experienced a real protest. ooh how exciting" as opposed to really care about real issues or how to tackle them.
by showing their buttocks they make me (personally) think that their goal, whatever they're fighting for, is as ridiculous as their way of protesting... they, and their [potentially important] issue will not be taken seriously

justiceusa 09-15-03, 11:03 PM The protests are coming from the developing nations and they have every right to make their message known. These nations have an economy that is still based primarily on agriculture. In the developed nations farmers are heavily subsidized by their governments. This means that the developing nations can not compete in the global market place.
50% of the worlds population lives on the equivalent of $2 per day (or less in many cases). In the USA and Great Britian the average daily government subsidy for a dairy cow is $2.70.
I can see why the protesters might be a bit pissed at us.

Most of the so-called leftist/people organizations exploit just as much as anyone else. The FARC guerrillas in Colombia are involved in drugs and kidnapping just as much as the Cartels. Castro governs a backward country due to the ineptitudes of communism, see also North Korea. The Shining Path marxist group in Peru terrorizes the farmers, steals from them, they don't care, they just want power under a different name, but only they get it.

Public protest is -- should be -- amongst the most valued of all expressions of opinion.
Bared buttocks is the last resort of the intellectually flatulent.
Since when is group dumb ass a compelling argument?

It is losing it's value because certain people, and not the majority, but certain protestors have given them a bad name. I'm not saying that baring your buttocks is a bad thing. But those violent and altogether disruptive protests do nothing to increase the Value of such an important device.

Hi:
You are marvelous. This design reflects how creative your mind is. I have not seen many artistic works but I would like to call this tiny piece of yours an exquisite piece of articstic work. Thanks

the issues that the protesters are trying to protest might be important but because their form of protest is showing off their buttocks they won't be taken seriously. at least not by me.
