There is evidence of liquid water, but no definitive proof of course.

Do you have a link to the news story?

the triple point of water lays at 611.73 pascals martian average pressure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars#Atmosphere)lays at 600 Pa but can go up to 1155 pascals at it deepest point, so liquid water chouldn't be ruled out especialy during the southern summer when the atmosphere is at it's densest and tempratures in hellas are at it's peak... altough on earth it's stable between and a 100°C celcius on mars (hellas) theors proberly only a stable zone between 10-20°C

As others have indicated, your thread title is totally inaccurate!

I suppose you are talking about the silica that was discovered because of the rover's wheel that no longer turns and is dragging on the surface. The crystalline silica is an INDICATION of the possible past presence of water but can hardly be claimed to be FOUND water - pay attention to important details please!!!!

By your sloppy criteria, finding a dinosaur track would be equal to having found the dino - very, very silly!

"A new analysis of Martian soil data led by University of California, Berkeley, geoscientists suggests that there was once enough water in the planet's atmosphere for a light drizzle or dew to hit the ground, leaving tell-tale signs of its interaction with the planet's surface.
The study's conclusion breaks from the more dominant view that the liquid water that once existed during the red planet's infancy came mainly in the form of upwelling groundwater rather than rain."

They found water ice there, it's officially confirmed.
