View Full Version : Water and Consciousness
Dano9700 11-15-05, 03:20 AM I wasn't exactly sure where to post this, but here I go...
I hope this isn't a used topic, by the way.
There's this guy named Dr. Masaru Emoto who's done experiments with water crystals and the effects of human thought (that's putting it vaguely) on the shapes that they take. Go here--
http://www.whatthebleep.com/crystals (http://www.whatthebleep.com/crystals/)
and check it out.
I'd like to know what everyone thinks about this-- specifically, its implications regarding the power inherent in the human brain, and whether this points to some untapped potential that we all have or just to the upper limits of human determination. Of course I want to believe in telekinesis and voodoo and all that stuff--that the sky's the limit for homo sapiens--just as much as the next person, but does this crystal stuff indicate anything in that direction?

Absolutely not. That's some of the worst pseudoscience I've ever seen. "Water crystals", better known as ice, will certainly form different shapes and patterns when subjected to sound waves while in the process of freezing. They will also respond to the spoken word since it, too, will create small disturbances in the liquid while it's freezing.
But thoughts? No way. And all the rest is just hocus-pocus as well, like the polluted water business. He's nothing but a jerk trying to prey on gullible people in order to sell them his book. Forget it!
Water and Consciousness
I just had to make note of this, since I am being mentioned! ;)
Dano9700 11-15-05, 11:35 PM I guess you could be right, but the impression I got was that sound wasn't a factor, except in the cases of the classical/heavy metal crystals. But if that is the primary factor, then how do you explain the difference (also assuming that the site isn't a complete lie) between the 'blessed' crystals and the 'you make me sick' one?
I'm trying to be more optimistic about this than Light and his post.

You're certainly welcome to be as optimistic as you wish to be but that still won't turn falsehoods into truth. ;)
As to his blessed and sick crystals, he'd have to show me some studies done by completely independent researchers involving a couple of hundred test subjects. And I'm more that willing to bet you won't find THAT in his book! :D
It's just a thinly veiled attempt to make money from people that should know better. Sorry.
Dano9700 11-16-05, 02:12 AM You don't have to apologize! Believe me, assuming that what you say is true, I'm still far from devastated. But it's my firm belief that the potential of the human brain and its abilities is far from tapped, and I supposed that this could be evidence in support of that.
Ice crystals = cell/tissue trauma.
Dano....yes i have heard of him before. itis verty interesting.....water has always been a metphor for consciousness in mythology. it seems to reside in a dimension between 'solid' and 'wavelike'....it is THEonlysubstance that rehydrates the body
the very term 'are you WELL?' refers to prepatriarchal insights thatwater from the eart's wells was healing
so yeah, here will be definately somethng in what he is saying
ignore the annoyin troll callin itself 'Light'....all he does te day long is troll about stampin his feet, blue in the face screaing if anyone talks about shit that freaks him out of his materialistic little universe
just ignore

Right! Much better that you listen to acid-head Duendy who believes anything that's silly enough. :D If someone claimed that an ancient civilization was living on the moon and was shooting rockets at us, Duendy would be the very first to buy into it. Just make it ridiculous enough and she'll be your best supporter!! :D
c'est moi 11-17-05, 07:54 AM What about the so-called "phantom DNA"?
There's plenty of things that cannot be explained starting from a newtonian clockwork framework of thought.
Why does homeopathics work so well with animals?
There's definately more to water than just minerals.
SoLiDUS 11-17-05, 09:07 AM You know the saying... "water water everywhere, so let's all have a drink!"
Hercules Rockefeller 11-17-05, 10:53 AM What about the so-called "phantom DNA"?
What is "phantom DNA" supposed to be?
Why does homeopathics work so well with animals?
Evidence?<P>
CharonZ 11-17-05, 11:19 AM Actually there are papers describing an effect of homeopathic treatments on animals. Very few (as for humans) exhausting detail studies, though.
Most seem to conclude that the effect of homeopathics mimics that of placebos, but there are apparently some exceptions. In one case, for instance the homeopathic drug Podophyllum was found to possess nematotoxic properties and was used to treat Trichinella infections.
One important point however, is that there is no clear evidence how homeopathics really work (or if they do). Possibly they do work like placebos (although these effects are not well understood, either). To state an important (almost metaphysical) influence of water is a bit premature at this point.
