What does that matter? There was no U.S invasion of Afghanistan prior to 9/11, so obviously the Muslims who perpetrated 9/11 are to blame for the invasion of Afghanistan. Right? Right!?
Wrong. Muslim involvement in atrocities such as 9/11 (unproven) does not give one carte blanche to invade Muslim nations.
The U.S.A would not have invaded Afghanistan had it not been for the Muslims who perpetrated 9/11. Hence those Muslims are responsible for the U.S's actions, rational or not.
In the first place, the US never submitted a formal request for extradition of OBL, and never produced evidence of his guilt to accompany the threats and demands, and publicly refused to negotiate circumstances of his handover (at one point the US even refused a Taliban offer to hand OBL to the Saudis). In the second place, the US gave the Taliban less than two weeks to respond to the following ultimatum which was delivered without courtesy and in as insulting a manner as possible, without justification in normal diplomacy or international law. The ordinary interpretation of such an ultimatum is that the one delivering it is creating a pretext for assault. And in the third place, none of this has anything to do with Iraq, an invasion which (like the Afghan invasion) had been in preparation since W took office in January of 01.

Actually, the Taliban were mostly in opposition to the mujahideen, it was they the Taliban had to fight to gain control of Afghanistan.
