Accident or Not?

I f you dont know who the hell he is, he was a former Soviet colonel, who became Chief of Staff of the Chechen army in 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union, has fought against Russian forces in the first and second Chechen wars, and was elected president upon the death of Chechnya’s first leader Dzhokhar Dudaev. He got the so called peace by taking a maternity ward hostage, and was responsible for the theatre seige and the beslan siege. He was also responsable for the war between local mafias in chechneya and moscow.

He was killed during a security raid in tolstoi yurt.

Not an accident. Plain old hunting and shooting.

I've stopped regarding important deaths in Russia as accidents a long while ago.

here is another question though... now that he is dead will things in chechneya improve or not?

I doubt it. He's gone, but there are plenty of people just like him ready to replace him. It's not a single person that is the problem.

Oh, yes! Now he's gone, everyone will kiss each other on the lips, declare their undying love and compassion for man and beast, and all of mankind will live happily everafter ...perhaps longer.

funny how people living dangerous lives are prone to "accidents"

i'm not very familiar with Chechnya events and facts, but the way i understand is that this guy was considered a moderate among the Chechen terrorist factions.

at first i thought he was the other guy -- Shamil' Basayev

Basayev said that he will gladly stand before a Shari'a court to answer for his Beslan actions because his actions were totally justified, and that he intends to do many more similar actions

so i was happy when i heard the news of the death. but when i double checked and found out it was "the other guy" i thought maybe it wasn't such a good idea. considering Russia needs to show how brutal it is maybe it's part of the overall counter-terror policy

Maskhadov in personal opinion, is better off dead, shamil basayev can do nothing from britain where he is hiding , and the rest of the terrorists are not orgonised enough to do anything seriouse.

and baron , take it easy , the sarcasm was not justified I was just asking for peoples opinions.

Well, I gave you my opinion ...and I also thought that sarcasm WAS justified or I wouldn't have used it. But I'm sorry if it offended you in some way, that was not my intent to be personal. The sarcasm was for the basic question, not the questioner personally.
