I think it's an awesome strategic move to take Sadaam down now. Given that 9/11 smacked the Amercian Government squaw in da jaw... it is fortunate IMO that government officials (though they go too far with some of the big brother bullshit, though that will be worse as time progresses regardless I'd imagine, tech and all) woke the fuck up. To me, it said "hey dumbasses, we can fuck with you and you can't stop it". There are some incredibly sharp tacticians/computer models/politicians that take the exposed threat as seriously as I think we should (for instance, I agree with the approach take in the movie "swordfish" by John Travolta and his crew).

Okay I think taking Sadaam does a bunch of things, the largest of which is taking their land. No, not all of it, just enough for a few military bases. Obviously there is strong need for a US intelligence/military presence in the region. I'd be interested to see if the number of troops/CIA folks in South Korea is on a dramatic increase since then. I think taking Sadamm gets:

1) Rid of the dictator with the most hatred for the US (though that line is LONG.. still the next points solidify it)
2 a) As much of a presence in the area that you want
2 b) An awesome reason (though to a lot of people, somewhat flimsy ... what really matters if there is enough evidence, BS or not) to be in the area for a long time to come, since we conveniently have to occupy Iraq to ensure stability of the country.
3) Puts you in the "fighting muslim fundamentalist bitch asses" sweet spot. What a great place to be in terms of a home base for 'anti-terrorist' operations all around the region.

There are probably more great strategic points... and I'm sure hypewaders will come up with a list of reasons why it's suicide, to which I respond.. I think this situation calls for strength rather than cowering in fear from that which you think is sure to happen.

Further, I strongly approve of this tactic, though it is somewhat risky. I think it's worth the risk considering that inaction eventually results in the same thing as failed action.
