Can anyone enlighten me with the basic principles contained in Vogler's famous memo to Disney, which apparently laid out the ground rules that led to the standardisation of successful movie making?

Vogler's point of view is that all major screenplays must fit some mythological "Hero's Journey" mold. Apparently his writings have been used by Hollywood pros for years, and were even required reading for Disney studio employees for a long time. I don't know if they still are or not though.

Unfortunately, this probably accounts for why so many contemporary movies "feel" the same, and there sometimes seems to be so little innovation.

:m: Peace.

Unfortunately, it's the sort of formula that film producers/publishers seem to be looking for. I guess writers like Paulo Coelho and James Redfield must have really studied Vogler's concepts.
