View Full Version : Vista Networking Problems
lixluke 02-26-07, 05:11 AM I have no idea what to do to make this work. I have been trying for days to find a solution to no avail. (BTW This same exact problem occurs in XP if you go into "Folder Options/View", and uncheck the "Use simple file sharing" box.)
I was just wondering mainly if there is anybody at all who is able to use another computer on the network to get full access to a Vista Computer's C drive and all subfolders. Nothing seems to be working for me.
I'm running a private wired network between my 2 computers using a netgear router for internet access. I am running XP Pro on one computer, and Vista Ultimate on the other.
Using my Vista computer, I have full access to all of the files on my XP computer. No problem.
Using my XP computer, I can see my Vista Computer C Drive on the network, but I cannot open it. When I try to open the C drive, I get the following error:
\\vistacomp\c C is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
I am logged on as true adminsitrator (at least I think so) on both of my PCs. They are both full installations on my personally built rigs. On both computers, I am logged on as "Administrator".
After contacting myself, and finding out that I am supposed to have access permissions, I still got the same error. Then I tried all kinds of adjustments under the Sharing tab of my C drive properties menu. Also under Security tab. I have no idea what to do to make this work.
I have been trying for days to find a solution to no avail. Is there anybody out there that can see and access their Vista C drive from an XP computer as well as handle all the files and folders within it?
Nikelodeon 02-28-07, 11:38 AM Perhaps it recognises that fact that you ripped off a copy of Vista.
thedevilsreject 02-28-07, 11:45 AM no thats happened to me on vista before, i was trying to instill bt homehub on to my new laptop and i was getting taht error even though i was admin too
Nikelodeon 02-28-07, 11:54 AM I used to have a very similar problem on Windows XP, turns out external users were being forced to log in as guests.
In the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa
the value for "forceguest" was defaulted to 1.
I dunno if the same problem applies to Vista.
lixluke 02-28-07, 04:44 PM Any computer I plug into my XP rig has full access to the C drive to read, write, and do whatever.
But Vista is not allowing me to enter the C drive. Is there a way to set it so that I can do the same thing? Just leave the C drive fully shared so any computer I plug into the network can access fully?
Crunchy Cat 03-05-07, 12:07 AM Permissions have to be set individually for each folder in the root of the C drive. Vista's security model is the reason for this.
nietzschefan 03-05-07, 08:02 AM While I hate vista - this is sound security - you REALLY should not share out your c:
Are both your C drives formatted the same?
In other words - one formatted FAT32 and the other NTFS.
Stryder 03-06-07, 02:07 PM While I hate vista - this is sound security - you REALLY should not share out your c:
This is accurate, you should never "Share" the drive that the OS resides on as it's a potential security issue. Should someone purposely snoop around to find out information or if someone should accidentally corrupt the OS.
If you must share a folder on C: then be prepared for consequences, however I would suggest perhaps creating an extra Partition with any free space to Share instead.
lixluke 03-11-07, 10:23 PM Everything is formatted NTFS.
Furthermore, there is no someone. I have an XP computer for playing music on the loud speakers in the dance room. I have a Vista computer with all of the music on it. Guess what? I cannot access the music from the XP computer.
There is no security issue on a private network that nobody has access to. You HAVE to stop looking at it as 2 separate computers, and look at them as one computer in 2 parts of my apartment. Yes they are 2 separate computers, but I need to be able to use both computers from the other computer. I can use my XP computer from my Vista computer perfectly flawless. However, I cannot use my Vista computer from my XP computer whatsoever. In fact, I am having problems using my Vista computer from my Vista computer. In other words, Vista the virus is giving me pemission problems doing anything with system and program files on a single computer.

Nikelodeon 03-12-07, 10:11 AM Furthermore, there is no someone.
They like to keep you thinking that.
lixluke 03-12-07, 05:25 PM ????
lixluke 03-12-07, 05:33 PM I went to this website to check the time because I had the feeling that they changed it an hour.
http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java
Then I get a bloody yellow bar asking me if I want to install some Active X thing. Then I click to ALLOW. Then I get another error.
"Windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher."

Then the page shows up with everything on it, but an empty box with no clock.
Nikelodeon 03-12-07, 05:35 PM Fascinating
Nikelodeon 03-12-07, 05:53 PM So lixluke, you live in Miami?
lixluke 03-12-07, 07:11 PM Where Cool Skill lives is not the issue. Do you even know how to fix vista?
1. Cannot network.
2. Constant dreadful "invalid certificate" screen on IE7.
3. Nonstop bloody yellow bars on IE7. Thinking about switching to firefox.
4. That bloody error above about Windows blocking software because it could not verify the publisher. No way to surpass in order to install.
5. Relentless "you need premission to perform this action" error box whenever I try to do something. No way to surpass in order to perform the action.
Where did you get the Vista OS from?
invert_nexus 03-12-07, 07:18 PM Don't copy that floppy!
Fool!
Don't copy that floppy!
Fool!
He installed it from floppies? that's the problem.
lixluke 03-12-07, 07:33 PM I DLd it duh. It's a 30 day trial version. But it is a full version of Vista Ultimate 64. It just expires in 30 days. You mean I get those errors because it is a 30-day trial? Other than the 30-day expiration, shouldn't I be able to do everything normal that a registered version does?
EDIT: It's actually the full version, but if you install it without a serial number, it installs with a 30-day expiration on it.
lixluke 03-12-07, 07:37 PM I'm tired of that anyway. If it weren't for the games and the 3d design/production apps, I would sure as hell not be using this virus of an OS.
[Edited by Stryder:] Sorry, Lixluke. Asking for Serial numbers or Cracks isn't what sciforums is about. The entire purpose of a trial period is so you can decide if you want to buy or not, if you find you are having problems with it then don't bother with it. You've got a few years before they push XP down the same road as win98 in the form of online support and updates being removed.
Only on the cracked versions.
Sock puppet path 03-13-07, 02:24 AM Where did you get the Vista OS from?
He stole it like everything else he has, see the torrent in his screen he is a parasite DON'T HELP HIM
You do not even know what you are talking about. The proletariat are the ones dumb enough to to work, and like brainwashed zombies chase down those that refuse to partake in their idiodicy in order to get them to conform.
The proletariat seem to be under the impression they are free. blah blah blah (http://www.sciforums.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=1323376)
Asshat I tells ya asshat
:poke:
Nikelodeon 03-13-07, 03:25 AM Ring up Microsoft support centre, tell them your cracked version of Vista isnt letting you network.
Sock puppet path 03-13-07, 03:41 AM Make sure and tell them they are a bunch of prol sukkahz too.
Nikelodeon 03-13-07, 03:44 AM Don't forget to tell them your address in Miami too.
lixluke 03-13-07, 01:16 PM He stole it like everything else he has, see the torrent in his screen he is a parasite DON'T HELP HIM
I guess you never heard of filesharing. Are you really that dumb enough to actually pay money for media?
Ring up Microsoft support centre, tell them your cracked version of Vista isnt letting you network.
Good idea.

Removed because of content
Stryder 03-13-07, 03:18 PM Like I mentioned in your previous post Lixluke, sciforums isn't for sharing cracks or otherwise propagating illegal activities.
I know you feel like what you've done/learnt will help people and want to express it to them but the place to do that isn't here. I could have given a warning or infraction over the contents, however I'm going to let it slide this time. This does not however excuse a "Next time".
I'm also closing the thread too since it now serves no purpose.
