View Full Version : Violent Cartoons
UberDragon 02-21-03, 05:04 PM I've noticed that over the past few years, a couple networks that show Saturday morning cartoons have made attempts to air anime that are particularly violent in nature. Fox tried to show Escaflowne, a show with a great plot that just happens to contain a lot of blood, but they only got past the first couple episodes. cartoon Network has succeded by showing their stuff in a block deemed Adult Swim. While so far this seems like it should be in A&C, I wanted to ask if anyone knows where I could find a DVD of the first couple seasons of Escaflowne. Thankee kindly! :D
Go to the video store. I own the whole thing.
UberDragon 02-22-03, 12:38 AM As is the recurring theme for today, I'm feeling in the mood for some violent anime. Not rape or porn or anything, but I'm just looking for something along the lines of good action and adventure with a little bit of gore. I already have Berserk, which takes all of the aforementioned conditions to the extremes, and Escaflowne. Any other good ones?
man_of_jade 02-22-03, 12:48 AM Another one would be Evangelion something or other. That made my brain hurt, although i managed to follow the "plot" better than anyone else i know so far. Its easier to follow a fish in an ocean than try understand that thing... But i have to agree it was pretty good.:p
Gasaraki was good. I've also seen Excel Saga, a very messed up comedy. You'll laugh at that one. I've mentioned this in another thread a long time ago that didn't get the I was realy looking for. I con't feel a need to see "tits and guts" so to speak. No interest in porn, and I really dont' want to mess with more than a little blood. Uber, try Spriggan, is a good one.
Another problem is when the store has the last volume, the second, and one in the middle, but not the first.
Rebel_number 02-24-03, 05:58 AM watch fist of the north star or return of overfiend.
them two are an nasty anime
them two are an nasty anime I'd like to know a bit more than that before buying them.
valentino 02-24-03, 08:27 PM Trying to run Escaflowne on FOX was a joke, it wasn't going to work. The show is too action oriented and too many scenes were being cut to fit the kiddy audience. The first episode was skipped altogether! Hopefully, Toonami will pick up the rest of the show, but it will always be better in the original format. As for where it can be bought, anime is everywhere now, I saw a copies of Evangelion being sold at a gas station!
Cowboy Bebop is great. 1:30 am on comedy central
I am horribly limited. They show Cartoon Network during the day, about 2200 to 0600 is TCM, so I only get the sucky cartoons. Skyone and Five don't show anything good, and there are almost no cartoons on the American Forces Networks. About the only good ones I get I have to buy.
valentino 02-25-03, 02:32 PM Ruoroni Kenshin has been picked up by cartoon network and will be aired starting march 3rd. Everyone rejoiced, if it's on adult swim and not too edited, it has some nice violence in it.
They don't show that time period.
valentino 02-25-03, 10:15 PM I don't know if it's going to adult swim or toonami yet, I'll have to look it up.
LIke I said, from about nine or ten local to six, the channel shows TCM, not Cartoon Network. It sucks.
UberDragon 02-28-03, 07:40 PM I finished dowloading as many episodes of Berserk as possible off KaZaA, and there were only 25. Please tell me there were more than 25 episodes made! please!
valentino 03-01-03, 11:50 PM I am pretty sure Perpetual Time (ep 25) is the last episode of that series. I know how you feel though, like someone killed your best friend huh?
shadows 03-08-03, 10:18 AM anime is neat. I like the violent stuff.
valentino 03-08-03, 05:25 PM Hey, I just heard from some nerd guy that there are more episodes of Berserk on the make. So hopefully we'll be getting more soon.
%BlueSoulRobot% 03-17-03, 11:55 PM Escaflowne kicked arse, what do you mean it wasn't on Fox? I watched it everyday until they had repeats! :D Then I saw the movie, and that kicked arse too! So much of the kicking and the arse pains and the foibles! :D
Dilandau has got to be the wickedest villian ever! :m:
Commandore Zippy 03-18-03, 11:09 PM You must mean Fox on cable. Otherwise they got rid of it. I hear X and Shamanic Princess are good violent anime. I also hear Utena is good too but after seeing one episode, I concluded it was fruity.
UberDragon 03-19-03, 06:29 PM Over the past couple weeks, I've seen the first season of Hellsing (i hope there are more) which totally rocked. I highly suggest that anyone who is interested see it or download it.
JoojooSpaceape 03-27-03, 09:50 AM I dont know if someone mentioned this , but vampire hunter D bloodlust is very nice, and it doesnt have any of the retarded things. Example : when the character puts his hand behind his head and a tear comes down his face , or when the character is embarassed and turns into a freakishly cartoony version of the character. Vampire Hunter D is amazing, very good, and has lots of vampire killing goodness.
UberDragon 03-27-03, 03:48 PM Ah. I remember those hours lost with D. I think it's time to renew old friendships.
Krassos 04-07-03, 09:34 PM Uh...the origional He-man?
I'm going to put in another vote for Evangelion. It's AWESOME. And who doesn't like big living robot things kicking the shit out of other big things? Also another vote for Cowboy Bebop -- does anyone know if you can buy DVDs or VHS of that yet? I'd also recommend Ghost in the Shell, Blood the Last Vampire, and Gin Ro (that's how it sounds, but it's some weird slant talk ;) ) the movies. Me and the BF tried to watch the Ghost in the Shell series but the subs were HORRIBLE. However, if you can find good ones (fan dubs?), or understand japanese then it's probably really cool. I support various Gundams too, but you know, that's mostly a big robot thing not a violence thing. Although they do fight.
What IS escaflowne? I've been meaning to look into that when I got a DVD of it in my stocking (it was like episode 20-22 so I didn't want to ruin the series if I liked it).
sargentlard 04-10-03, 08:02 PM Uberdragon you should try "Trigun", it's a action cum comedy show...very cool. Also i have heard great praises of "Hellsing". Also "Golden boy" a very funny show about a drop out law student who travels around studying life. He gets in trouble with all the ladies.....it's a perverted show but quite humorous at the same time.
What IS escaflowne? I've been meaning to look into that when I got a DVD of it in my stocking (it was like episode 20-22 so I didn't want to ruin the series if I liked it). It's a fantasy mecha. I enjoyed it, as actually the one that got me into anime. There's a good bit of fighting, and they don't show alot of blood. There's no sex either. recomend seeing it once, just to see if it's for you.
Fafnir665 04-11-03, 08:57 AM Is Escaflowne what "Ah my Goddess" is based on? Another good series is blueseed, it starts out annoying, but it has a kick asending
valentino 04-12-03, 04:35 PM Escaflowne has nothing to do with Ah My Goddess, at all. It's a sci-fi fantasy show set on our world and another and has gundam-type mecha in it.
