Hey Mr. J

Your video card may be integrated into your MoBo even though it is not specified on the card info. Try loading the BIOS and seeing if you can up the amount of shared memory on the card. For example, when I worked on Dennis' computer, I set the video memory for 64MB even though the default was 32MB since the computer has plenty of RAM to compensaye and he didn't actually need all that much RAM for basic internet surfing and MSN.

A new video card would be advisable. I can help you shop for one depending on your system's detailed specs. You could probably upgrade other aspects of it as well at the same time.

Go to tigerdirect.ca they have awesome stuff at the lowest prices and I have bought from them quite often without any hitches.

After hearing many opinions, and checking www.resellerratings.com , I can't recommend TigerDirect (their rating here (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller5616.html) ) . I can recommend www.newegg.com though (their rating here (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller_info.pl?seller_id=2121)) .

I agree, that is probably video integrated into the motherboard. Hopefully your motherboard has an AGP slot. If not, you may want to hold off on upgrading until you can replace your motherboard as well.

Repo Man, I would suggest newegg but they don't ship to Canada. I've never had a bad experience with tigerdirect.

I like shopping at:

http://www.pricegrabber.com/

It has been a good site to shop for great deals and I've never had any problems at any of their stores. It is always prudent to research at least 2 or 3 sites to see the prices of what your looking for.

Ok, well, I already have a new video card, I just have to make sure it works...LOL!
It's a GeForce 4 Mx 440. Anyways, so I go into BIOS, and what setting would I check to see if the graphics card is intergraded? I see the BIOS infromation there on the pic of the properties...What would I do with that? If it's intergrated, I'm going to flip, because I don't feel like getting a new mother board...Hope, I am pretty sure it has an AGP slot though.

What were you planning to play with that video card? That's not a DirectX 9 compliant video card, from my knowledge. It's like a souped up DX7 one I think. I don't know about the particular bios of your Mobo, but if it's relatively recent, and has integrated graphics and an AGP slot, there should be an option to disable the integrated graphics.

I hope that your current video adapter is actually integrated, because I don't know if an AGP slot which could take a 8MB video card would also take a GeForce 4 MX 440, which I'm assuming is at least a 64MB one. There are different AGP specifications, 2x, 4x, 8x. If your Mobo has a 4X or 8x (or perhaps a "universal", I'm not sure) AGP slot, you should be able to put your "new" video card in it. But, please don't rely on my opinion. Please make sure you know what you're doing. :)

Well, I checked it out, and I was able to change the memory from 8 MB to 32MB...That mean's it's intergraded doesn't it. But, I explored the setup and found setting for AGP, I will get more details soon. I didn't have enough time to really check it out.

I don't have the money for really spiffy cards, I just want something that will support OpenGL systems, has at least 64mb of memory, and is not too old. The GeForce that I got is good enough. I just need to know if, and how to install it because I have an intergrated videocard...what do I do?

Altaran, bring your comp into work and I'll take a look at it. you can get a decent video card for under $100. I know you make enough to afford one since we make the same $ per hour :).

I suggest you and your parents invest in a new computer because yours... how should I say this politely... ummmm.... well... sucks... badly... you got ripped off... it's a piece of *cough* *cough*. I have a dencent Radeon video card in my 800, it supports everything... maybe you can buy it off of me when we buy a new computer....

Tis true, the mx line is cheesy. If I'm not mistaken, the geforce 4 mx is little more than a barely souped-up geforce 2 ultra or whatever. Tis a significant improvement over the previous card though.

ok, well, I my computer is fine for the family and all and I am fine with pretty much everything except the video card. Although, I can live with out it. I will eventually be getting my own computer though.
