Just rented the aforementioned Woody Allen film and I'm not sure whether I liked it or not. I was wondering if anyone else had seen it as well?

    The Rumpus on VCB

Haven't seen it, but I came across an interesting commentary about the film this morning; I don't know if you can call it a proper review.

The other night I finally slipped in a months-old Netflix copy of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, the story of two American beauties abroad. Within the first twenty minutes I resisted the film, thinking I am not in the mood to watch a movie about people who don't have to worry about paying bills. Perhaps it's my persistent shame at being relatively untraveled, but I wasn't all that compelled to follow the romantic intrigues of people who float through Europe on the wings of their charmed life. The characters who do have jobs in these film are shallow, khaki-wearing business schmucks, men ever cognizant of one another's golf handicaps and bewildered by abstract art ....

.... Vicky Cristina Barcelona rubbed me the wrong way, I guess. I wasn't in the frame of mind to accept escapist entertainment on its own terms, which is unusual for me. After all, recently I've been perfectly willing to accept the snappy breeziness of Preston Sturges.

    (Boudinot)

And that from an admitted fan of Woody Allen's films, a man whose marriage can be said to be invested to some certain degree in Annie Hall.

The film is about menage a trois and trysts...something woody allen knows about all too well.

Oh yeah its worth the watch if your into lesbian action between the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz, well there's kissing anyway describing it as full blown lesbian action is just hyperbole on my part.

Its a good film, the guy giving the review sounds like he's suffering from sour grapes. I mean hey I'm not a homeless street walker but it didn't interfere with my enjoyment of Midnight Cowboy:shrug:

Its a very romantic look at European society and its also highlights the difference in the way an american puritan understands love as opposed to the messy passions of the Spanish.

I'm really not keen on films that lack a plot. VCB spends most of its time with wine-drinking couples listening to Spanish guitar, while an annoying and overbearing narrator talks about their respective sexual frustration.

No chemistry between Juan Antonio and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson), although Penelope Cruz plays the mental ex-wife quite well.

    Meh, it was OK.
