    Please help me with this!

My father's Asus Ee PC with Win 7 won't shut down.

This is my father's work computer and he has to return it as he retired, he intends to return it tomorrow.
I was supposed to delete the remaining personal files, the passwords and the internet connection.

I was deleting some personal files and installing regular Adobe and other updates, when things came to a point that I couldn't do anything anymore.
At first, I could still run the task manager and shut down some of the programs.
But I could not open any programs, not IE and not the Bin, the message was that it cannot do it due to an error.

Then I tried to shut it down via the Start menu, and it wouldn't, the screen would just go black but the light indicators show that the computer is on (and they are blue as if everything would be normal) and the fan is on too.

This was around six hours ago. I tried again just before, no luck, black screen and the indicator lights on, fan on.

Pressing the on/off button doesn't change anything, nor does closing down the screen.

This computer has been slow to start for quite some time. The first half hour was an absolute drag. Then, it would run smoothly.

What could I do to shut it down and restart it?
    Any other advice?

Your help is very much needed.

Why on earth were you applying updates to a computer you are about to return?

They'll re-image it for sure, before it's redeployed.
