I would hesitate to call what happened to the Native Americans genocide, as well. Americans treated them like inferior beings, but they did not actively pursue the destruction of them all. A good deal of their deaths came from diseases brought over from Europe, not murder.

Actually, the Federal Government had a deliberate policy of genocide in the west after the Civil War, since they believed that the natives posed a threat to American settlers, as well as business interests.
