"To understand mankind first we need to understand the word, essentially there are two words here "mank" and "ind" what do these words mean? Maybe we'll never know and that is why mankind shall remain a mystery." Jack Handy

I love that one. I guess I should put some topic here or something, well alright then. I was talking to an older friend of mine the other day and he was telling me about his four year old cousin and the parenting techniques of their children. The basic argument was that this kid called himself "A champion" I said "so what?" Well then we argued about how kids should be brought up, I mean should we tell our children to reach for the skies, even though they will never be able to do so, not just that but making them think there good at sports when they obviously are not? Ah I just wanted to put that quote on here, hehehe thats awesome...

Some years ago I was working in a summer camp for children as a scout leader. When they were running 100 meters I cheated the times of the weaker kids (made them better) to ecrease their self esteem... Was it right, I do not know. One should be helping the weak, but if it includes to make them believe something which is not true, well I hope it helped them in learning to value themselves better (due to their weakness their selfesteem was low)

But principally that's what I think makes me a part of mankind: I am not really comfortable sitting in a room (even if I sit in a very nice chair) when others have to stand. To be really comfortable I need other people to be comfortable too.

    Classic jack handy.

    Procop,
Personally I think it is quite harmful to basically be dishonest to heighten someone's self-esteem. I am brutally honest at times and this makes people uncomfortable but I think it is for the best. For example, I think the camp should have focused on each individual's strengths instead of forcing everyone into a mediocre 100 meter racer! This kid may be slow, but he can lift bigger logs than the rest of em...this one can paint, this one tells great jokes, etc....

I dunno, I think there is too much emphasis on 'winning' some arbitrary competition and too little focus on the natural talents of people.

As for understanding mankind...I am as clueless as jack.
