The whole 0.999... = 1 "debate" is not arguable since one side has been PROVEN over and over again. I am reminded of this debate because I am in one right now on another forum. The debate has pretty much come down to this: I provide proofs and explanations of definitions. The reply? "You're an idiot (add some intuitive garbage that contradicts itself)."

We can always write a system for a number. And so long as we are dealing with the real numbers, we can perform addition and multiplication on them to obtain any other number in the reals.
