I need some help. I have this nice little USB drive. It's a Sony 64 MB MicroVault drive. When I plug it in, it loads the drivers and everything, and gives me a message about using my USB 2.0 drive with my non-USB 2.0 interface, but that's not the problem.

The problem that I have with it is that after a while, the drivers unload, and reload instantly (as if I had unplugged and plugged the drive back in). I find it really annoying because I want to keep the drive attached for more than 30 seconds (about how often it reloads) and the stupid dialog wants to keep coming up.

Is there any kind of USB refresh setting in the registry or services that I don't know about? Anyone know how to fix this?

I alos forgot, it's Windows XP Pro SP1.

I think the problem is due to the fact that it's not really suppose to be an always plugged in form of storage media.

For instance with a harddrive the idea is to keep the drive running in preperation for accesses/writes etc. A harddrive will only power down if it's told to and has idled for a predefined period.

A USB storage unit like that Memory Pen, isn't developed to be like a harddrive, it acts more like a Floppy drive in the sense that it has to start up when data is sent across to it. (Your memory cache's during the shift of data to deal with the start up latency)

There will probably eventually be a driver hack to deal with the problem I guess, but I don't think those sorts of storage were designed to act like harddrives.

What are you using it for?

School work. I had a presentation I was putting on the drive, and it would constantly disconnect...it was being a super pain in the ass that day.
