DJ sacked for Rice racial slur



Lenihan had been working at KTRS for less than two weeks

A US radio talk show host has been sacked for using a racial slur to describe US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Dave Lenihan used the word "coon" while presenting a live programme on KTRS radio in St Louis, Missouri.

He apologised immediately, saying it was a slip of the tongue and he meant to say "coup".

The boss of KTRS agreed the remark was accidental but said it was nonetheless "unacceptable and unforgivable".

'Fantastic woman'

Lenihan used the abusive word while arguing live on air that Ms Rice deserved to become the next boss of America's National Football League.


Lenihan is reportedly writing a letter of apology to Ms Rice


"She's got the patent resume of somebody that has serious skill. She loves football. She's African-American, which would kind of be a big coon. A big coon," he said.

After realising that he used a racial slur, Lenihan apologised immediately: "Oh my God. I am totally, totally, totally, totally, totally sorry for that."

Listeners soon began calling the radio station to voice their complaints.

About 20 minutes later, KTRS boss Tim Dorsey went live on air to apologise to Ms Rice and to listeners.

"There can be no excuse for what was said. Dave Lenihan has been let go. ... There is enough hate. We certainly are not going to fan those flames," Mr Dorsey said.

Lenihan - who had been working for KTRS for less than two weeks - later said he was preparing a letter of apology to Ms Rice, according to the Associated Press news agency.

He described Ms Rice as "a fantastic woman".

This really is another knee jerk reaction over the colour of a persons skin, the guy said it by accident, apologised then is sacked.

If a black DJ said honky instead of honk in reference to a car horn, would he be sacked to, no chance, and no one would complain neither.

we have honky music, honky everthing, the difference is whites dont care if someone insults our colour, the reason is we were born with our skin colour, why should anybody be ashamed of there skin colour.

Now if we had coon music, this would be regarded as racist.

I am for equal rights of all skin colours, but i am against playing favorites in racial terms.

Racial harrassment, i have never heard of whites complaining about being racially harrased.

I really think non-whites need to come to terms with the colour of there skin, and stop using it to sue us for remarks.

I find it more & more ridiculous each year, mankind is supposed to be progressing mentally, yet still people are insulted by terms for skin colour.

In thailand where i live, white skin is considered upper class, dark skin lower class, the women & some guys spent most of the day with umbrellas in the sunshine, just so they dont loose there fair skin, where as whites walk around half naked trying to get a tan, we embrace tans, they want rid of there natural tan, it is so comical.

Whitening cream is the biggest selling product in asia, i just dont understand how anyone can be ashamed of there colour of skin, or be insulted by references to there skin colour.

We have some all white schools in London & all black schools, yet these schools are only miles apart, it is just so stupid we are segregating our kids, they might learn from this that different coloured people are not supposed to mix, we make them see they are different.

I can understand handicapped people being offended when they are singled out & laughed at for some deformity, but how does anyone in this day & age get offended by remarks about the colour of there skin.

I mean i am called a qui low in singapore (meaning white ghost), americans call us limee's the australians call us pommee's, i am totally not insulted by words in reference to my skin colour or nationality.

Coon, nigger, have been made into like evil swear words, but honkey or limey or pommee are seen as more like joke words, of course there are some who would say these words to offend people, but i would just think what a air head this guy is to think i am offended by supposed insults about my nationality or colour.

 

I cannot believe people cannot simply grasp the obvious: different races don't mix.

All colours mix, just like paint, inter race marriages produce a unique colour that is different from either parent, & mixed children are often very beutiful, & in demand as models here in asia.

If inter race marriges were against nature, why does nature produce such beutiful children from them.

If you look at it from another angle, people or animals having sex with some form of blood relation, often produces deformity or mentally impaired offspring, so nature is telling you that it is wrong.

 

Point out historical examples of different cultures mixing and surviving.

That is a easy one, america made up of more races & diverse cultures, than any other country, and now the most powerful country in the world, so it seems it works for America.

I've noticed that the white race as a whole seem to have a massive guilt complex, which results in them making too many concessions to other races and cultures.
