So? Programming is not easy to corner because people can do it from their homes and teach them selves. I bet 90% of websites are made with self-taught HTML. it is the same way with programming (on low levels, i.e C, C++, java). When it comes to something like physics or math, then you raise a red flag.

p.s. don’t get me wrong, I am not saying they taught them selves all of this programming, but when people already have a good programming foundation when they get into college the teachers can focus on more advanced things. when students learn more advanced things the will out perform their peers. the reason America lags is because our high schools have a lot of problems.

Don't they teach physics and math in high schools too? :D

ok, firstly, I didn't say we didn't have a problem with physics and math in America, I just said we should worry about them more than programming.

Secondly, the environment of high schools in America makes students less focused on their futures than they should be, which is the problem I spoke of. and thus they are surely not going to teach them selves C++, or java as much as they might otherwise.
