I thought that our resident reactionary activists would have a field day with this thread, skilfully explicating with great accumen precisely how the planet would be a different--even if not a much better--place to live, without the US around to make everyone miserable and giving them something to gritch about.

Granted, the complexities of the interactions ongoing within the international community make it difficult to know what would happen in such a future, but surely making predictions should be little more strenuous than critizing in hindsight, like in all the other threads.

It's a hypothesis I formulated before starting the thread. So far, my predictions are being supported by observation.

1. As Mr.G said economies would collapse all over the world. Too many countries are dependent on us for inports or exports. We also hold the biggest stock exchange in the world in New York.

2. Many countries would be free to attack their neighbors, previously being held back by our presence. North Korea would invade South Korea. China would invade Taiwan. Iraq would invade Kuait. Terrorist groups would have free reign. Lots of other stuff would happen.

Most developed nations' economies would drop greatly at firts, but new deals would be worked out within a couple of months. Australia already trades a lot with China; we'd increase that a little to make up for the shortfall.

Adam - you get an "A" for effort but do you really think it will be the Moslem world's decision as to whether nuclear weapons are brought into play in a conflict with Israel? Do you really think that Israel is going to let itself be conquered without taking out every major Moslem city -- including Mecca and Medina?

Given Israel's options for warfare, I would think that any joint attempt at crushing Israel would have to include covert efforts to nullify Israel's nuclear and air power prior to a big assault.

Israel will never destroy Mecca. Whatever the fate of Mecca is to be, will not be brought about by some Israel attempt to annhilate Islam. It was made known during the time of the Prophet {pbuh} what would happen to Mecca.

Actually I was very good, as were the others in my operations room. I've hunted Los Angeles class subs, Trafalgars, and more. I can easily get around the jamming of those Prowler aircraft.

Are we better than the Soviets? Well, first, they are no longer called Soviets, as that political system collapsed. However, duing the time of the USSR, Ausrtalia was easily a match for them in terms of equipment quality and training. Now, the Russians have truly crap equipment, not much of it even works, and Austalian training is far superior. I daresay our training is superior to US training as well, at least in the field I worked in. And yes, I have worked with Americans, I know the quality of their training.
