Taken from Internet News 11 Oct 01 BLAIR WINS POLL BACKING FOR AFGHAN STRIKES Tony Blair's popularity in the international terrorist crisis matches that of Winston Churchill during the Second World War. A new poll also says three out of four Britons support the bombing of Afghanistan. Some 88% of people questioned said the Prime Minister has handled the crisis very well or quite well. The rating outstrips Margaret Thatcher's during the Falklands conflict and John Major's during the Gulf War. The ICM poll for Friday's edition of The Guardian found that 74% of Britons approve of the US-led strikes on Afghanistan, 16% disapproved while 10% said they didn't know. One in three people said they would have liked talks to go on longer, but the majority, 57%, think the coalition waited long enough. Only 36% said they would support action against Iraq, compared with 75% in a similar survey in the US. The majority, 66%, said they are confident that the President George Bush's administration will take the right decisions in Afghanistan. The poll also reveals a growing anxiety in Britain over the threat of retaliation for the bombing of Taliban targets which began on Sunday. A total of 41% said they now fear the risk of themselves being caught in a terrorist attack, compared with 32% some 12 days ago. ICM interviewed 1,001 adults by telephone between October 9 and 10.

UK on Alert Perosnally I think you are more in danger of falling off Mount Everest than contracting Anthrax, especially as the FBI has shown it to be the result of a maniac and man made.
