Does anybody kno wmuchabout U.S. naturalization and its laws? I have a friend, you'd call him an "illegal immigrant", he was sent from china when he was 16 (part of their population control policy) and he somehow used a family member's passport to come over here through canada? Anyway, how does someone like him go about getting some papers, a visa, green card, naturalization and all that? I mean he can't just go to a lawyer and ask for them, since he's illegal. Any advice?

I was naturalized. However, you need permanent residence *before* you can get naturalized. Since he is an illegal alien, the INS will ship him out if they find him. He can claim asylum or refugee status though. I think. That might get him a green card. I think. Once he has a green card, he has to live for 5 years in the U.S. and can then apply for citizenship.

Im pretty sure a Lawyer can't tell the cops anything. They have a confidentiality agree ment. Ask them first I guess you see one. I could ask some lawyer guy I know if you want but hes an asshole.

Hope it works out I hate INS :(
