Recently I saw a year 1999 film by German director Veit Helmer - Tuvalu. Filmed in Eastern Europe in black and white, colour colored with almost no dialogue Tuvalu creates a dreamlike. surreal atmosphere and tells a story which leaves you thinking and reliving the scenes and messages for days after. A story about love, modern against old and living through hardship to happiness. In the film there is an old, run down bathouse in the middle of nowhere owned by a blind, old man, who still thinks that it's full of people, he has two sons, one of which (Anton) works at the bathouse and has a panic fear of stepping one step outside of it, he does most of the work at the bathouse, working as a cleaner and receptionist is an old lady. They both help in maintaining old man's illusion. The bathouse is run down, cracking apart and with almost no clients, the clients who are are dirt poor and sometimes pay with buttons. Also homeless people live there. And there is an inspection looming - if the bathouse isn't validated safe, it will be closed down. And then there is the young and beuatiful Eva with her old father, who one day come to the bathouse, and Anton is messmerized by Eva, then appears the other son, which is a very evil character and tries to demolish the bathouse for his wide property construction project and also take Eva away from Anton. Besides that there is a ship standing in the docks owned by Eva's dad, and there is a map with an island where both Eva and Anton want to go, but to repair the ship it needs one part from the steam engine that powers the bathouse.
