The link below goes to my Star Trek Theme version of Winchell Chung's map of all stars within 15 Light Years.

(he took his version down)

I always liked his map so I redid it and made it into something that looks like it was downloaded from the Star Fleet Academy database.

It is way too big to print out unless you have a ink jet plotter, but I thought folks here might appreciate it anyway. I have spent hours on end studying this thing.

Start from the middle of the map with the Star labeled Sol at 0:00 then work your way out. You will find familiar stars near Sol that you recognize very likely. It is as good as you will find in a 2 dimensional map of 3D space. The Galactic Center is your reference on the right hand side of the map.

Good looking map, i love these sorts of things, you may like to have a look at this 3D map of our local galactic neighborhood to get some more ideas.

Now that would be something would it not. What if some astronomers got together with some programmers and made a good quality VRML star chart.

This is pretty cool. It is a solar system model in VRML. You will need to have a browser for these like Cosmo Player and it is about 1.6MB so you will need a high bandwidth connection and a pretty fast computer to enjoy it.
