View Full Version : Travelling Stories
TruthSeeker 02-18-06, 06:01 PM I can't live with the idea of not travelling. Has everyone here travelled before?
If so, have you had many adventures?
Do you have a funny travelling story?
Do you have a scary one?
Tell us! ;)
TruthSeeker 02-18-06, 06:05 PM I lived in Brasil for 17 years of my life (in Rio). I had never been robbed.
When I went to Rome, I witnessed my piano teacher (who was travelling with us, of course) being robbed by a bunch of kids. It was terrible, because he hadn't left his passport in the hotel. So we ended up spending the rest of the day trying to get a passport and a credit card (which was stolen too).
Also, I've been living in Victoria, BC for 3 years now and I've been robbed twice!!!!!!
are you brazilian?
a gente pode ficar falando português pra encher o saco do resto dos usuários, heh
i did a lot of work trips, which suck
last time i traveled for pleasure was to rio on october. i took some days off work and went all by myself. i told about it to an internet friend that lives in chicago, who decided to take a holiday and go to rio too. so it was a very weird experience, yet awesome... having someone who was just a bunch of 0s and 1s on my screen for 4 years suddenly be all tridimentional :D

O meu cunhado uma vez foi conhecer uma garota que ele conheceu na internet. Ele nao teve tanta sorte.... Coitado... ela era muito feia.... :D
Cottontop3000 02-18-06, 06:37 PM One time, when I was in Somalia with the army, I was stationed at the port in Mogadishu. A few of my soldiers and I would trade all kinds of stuff for beer from the Swedish army or for wine from the Italian army.
One night, we got so drunk we scaled the walls of our own compound (from the inside) and went out into the city. It was late at night, noone was up and we crept through the city with just our t-shirts, trousers and boots on. We carried our knives, but no guns. We were acting like spies and shit. Sticking to the shadows. One would move while the others watched. Being as silent as drunk americans can be. Felt like James Bond shit.
We eventually got tired and walked back in the front gate of our compound and got in a bit of trouble. Good times.
TruthSeeker 02-18-06, 06:39 PM Yeah cotton.... typical of you...
Cottontop3000 02-18-06, 06:45 PM Lucky we didn't get killed. This was just before the events of Blackhawk Down occurred. We'd get stoned on the cliffs at night too, overlooking the Indian ocean, with some pot I brought back from Nairobi. Had to keep the troops' morale up somehow. Basically, I just didn't like rules. They couldn't test us for pot over there because of the malaria pill we took. It skewed the results, so they said.

Cottontop3000 02-19-06, 04:05 PM Count it doll. Today, I took the same trip. Don't even need a passport.
TruthSeeker 02-19-06, 04:13 PM Today I travelled from my bedroom to the computer. Does that count?
nope
Cottontop3000 02-19-06, 04:15 PM you talking to purple_hairstreak? cause, you better not be talking to purple_hairstreak.
Cottontop3000 02-19-06, 05:12 PM I was in Israel once, in '91, and working on a kibbutz picking fruit (something like tangerines, I forget) to help pay for the trip. The kibbutz is just a farm, basically. They also had very large barns where they raised chickens. Row after row of chickens. Towards the end of my stay at the kibbutz, an Israeli jet flew over, too low, and accidentally or not, killed every chicken in the barns. Sonic boom or something. The kibbutz managers were pissed but said they would get compensation from the government.
Also, if you want a real experience, find some of the underground clubs and bars in Jerusalem. You'll think you were back in the days of the Romans. Pretty cool.
all4schwa 02-19-06, 10:40 PM speaking of 'spot the americans', how about trick the americans? in the smart shop--'here, eat this, it's one dose...' try about 4 doses...thems some crazy 'shrooms, not like we have around here...
