If you're a gamer – and if you're reading the Nerd Culture forum you probably are – you are probably annoyed with all of the negative stereotypes surrounding video games and the people who play them. Now you have a chance to do something about it, and help out a bunch of sick kids while you're at it.

The people at www.penny-arcade.com, a popular web comic that comments on the gaming industry, have organized a charity toy drive for the Seattle Children's Hospital. Seattle Children's Hospital provides medical care at no cost to children from poor families; since they opened in 1907, no child has been turned away because there parents couldn't afford to pay for treatment. It's primarily a toy drive to get presents for poor kids at Christmas, but it's also a media stunt to create some positive headlines for gamers.

It works like this: just purchase a toy from the list at http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/registry.html/104-5790465-0035152?id=2W2ZGW4875AML . You complete the transaction just like you would any amazon.com purchase, but the toy ships automatically to the people running the toy drive. The people at Penny Arcade aren't getting anything out of it; this isn't some kind of scam on their part to get a percentage commission or something.

More information on the toy drive can be found here : http://www.penny-arcade.com/childsplay/index.htm

Pitch in and help, damn it.
