Brian Foley 01-16-05, 12:55 AM Hold the elections, then get out

Is this a veiled defeatist statement ? If the Iraqis were screaming for liberation and wanting the US too institute a democratic election , why the call too get out ? though its not a surprising statement when you read the following article .
Falling like Flies 53 Iraqi Parties Withdraw from Elections
http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2005-01/13/content_2454796.htm
Falling apart at the seams ! An insightful view of just how serious the Iraqi people view these elections and a reason for the above recommendation and also a clear insight for the below US analysis of the election .
U.S. lowers expectations on Iraq vote
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6819452/
TRANSLATION: In other words prepare yourself for an official Washington D.C announcement after these elections consisting of “ Because only a handful of Iraqi civilians casted a handful of vote’s, this PROVE’S we were RIGHT to invade “
'No election' for parts of Iraq
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4166587.stm
TRANSLATION: This means only those parts of Iraq will be denied access to electoral stations because they wont vote the way Americas occupational authorities want them too ! These elections are fraudulent the people of Iraq know damn well these ‘elections’ are just a thin veneer for the US too install a compliant government , that if need be could just as easily become a dictatorship overnight when western business interests become threatened by nationalist feelings ..

It won't be a democracy for even a moment. Given no primary, no debates, hundreds of candidates, no federal funding hence little advertising, Allawi only has a million-to-one chance of winning. This is Puppet Government 101. Except for Allawi the Iraqis don't even know the names of those they vote for, since they vote for parties not people. The names are not released for "security reasons."
Undecided 01-27-05, 07:40 PM This election will pit Iraq into a civil war...the most counterproductive thing is this election.
surenderer 01-28-05, 06:23 AM I read that the officials "running" for office wont have their names released untill the night before the election for "security" reasons. So I'm pretty sure that word is travelling pretty slow in Iraq which means that when most go to vote they wont even know who to vote for untill they arrive at the polling station.I am also sure that they (the voter) will want to be "in-and-out" as fast as possible to make sure they arent retaliated against. So indeed they will be ignorant voters in the truest since of the word. They will be voting for a party that they have no idea where they stand on any issue.......indeed this is a shame :m:
It's absurd and I can't believe they are going to make this election happen. There is nothing REAL positive that can come out of this election. It is a milestone for the Bush Administration and will be acheived. The most depressing thing is how Bush and his spin doctors will succeed in convincing dumb America that this is a "good day" for Iraq and "freedom".
Yep, that's the whole point of this election, to convince Republicans (a.k.a. "dumb America") that Iraq is a democracy. Then the stealing of the oil is legitamized. Executive Order 13303, which gives Bush Oil immunity for stealing Iraqi oil, will remain in force just in case.

What will be the American contribution too the election ? Diebold machines :p
Clockwood 01-28-05, 03:38 PM This election damn well better work... for everyone's sake. The only way america is ever going to leave is if told to by a democratically elected representative of Iraq.
Mystech 01-28-05, 04:37 PM This election isn't about legitimacy, it's not about electing a provisional council to draft a constitution, it's really just about getting Iraqi's to vote for voting. We want to make sure that they drink the coolaid we made for them when the Bush administration realized that there were no WMD, and that they needed a new BS excuse to push down the throats of the American people FAST! Now we're going to have a completely ridiculous parade of news show showing what a wonderful democracy Iraq is becoming, and oh isn't it great that they're voting! These elections should have been delayed at least until we could guarantee that people going to the polls won’t be killed in droves, I think that would have been the considerate thing to do at the least.
You know, Saddam used to hold bullshit elections, too, I'm pretty sure he could have handled this just as well as we have.
Undecided 01-28-05, 06:03 PM This election will most likely be a farce because of the low turn out if not total lack of turnout in many Sunni areas. You cannot have a democracy with only some people voting, that’s not the way it works. No matter what happens in this election the Sunni’s will be a repressed minority because the Shi’a are going to win, unless the US engineers some massive election fraud that would be so massive that everyone would now it to be as such. Chances are sadly that Iraq will descend into anarchy, I think the United States may get its wish to leave Iraq early if the Shi’a are in power because then the US has outlived its usefulness to them, with the US out Shi’a consolidation of Iraq would be attempted but civil war will prevent that and Iraq may become a even deadlier Yugoslavia…thanks America with all your “freedom”.
Yup, the elections are a joke.

Well, I guess you gatta laugh when somewhere between 60 and 72 percent and up to 90 percent in Shi'a areas turned out to vote in spite of bullets, suicide bombers and threats of beheading. :D
Consider where the info comes from.
Consider where the info comes from.
I got the same info from swedish riks nytt (definately not pro US) and our local norweigan news.
And where did they get the info from? The US military controls the info.

Yuo forgot that the Shi'a areas are restive...there never was a beheading with the Shi'a...so its a moot point.
crazy151drinker 02-01-05, 02:37 PM Here in the U.S. we have a continual low turnout in elections without the threat of bombs. Give the Iraqi people credit for having elections for the first time in 50 years. Some of you people WANT the situation in Iraq to fail so you can wave your silly arms and scream "we told you so!!!" Stop being so negative all the time. Me thinks you would be happy if the world burnt to a crisp.
Now you are trying to say that since a certian group didnt vote the whole thing was a fake. Well I guess that makes the first 150+ years of American History FAKE since Blacks and Women couldnt vote.
