I'm trying to get 1-866- my last name, which is 7 characters long]. Any other good suggestions? There are a number of carriers that offer this. Look around. You must have an existing line to forward the number to though. Be prepared to pay a fair bit for calls though, up to 12¢ a minute. This is a long shot from the classic 7¢ a minute you pay for long distance (from AT&T which is already overpriced). AT&T offers a plan at $2.95 a month. Calls are 10¢ a minute. Sprint is $4 a month and calls are 20¢ a minute. Calls under 30 seconds are free. Zeroeffort for example, offers a free service at 6¢ a minute, but the setup charge is like $40 and the number reserveration charge is $55. You're better off looking for a smaller telephone company though.
