I am wondering does anybody have any theories on time travel in their opinions. I think of this subject a lot, and I would just like to know what other people think. It's just such an interesting and thought provoking idea. Let me know, thanks

Time travel is possble, because we are travelling forward in time all the time.

In fact, is not-travelling-in-time possible? :)

OK so how about stopping time, or speeding it up. Or traveling back in time.

One could argue that by having memories we can travel back in time, or stop time (cos we only view the time we want).

Wow, I have an answer for everything! :D

so if you have an answer for everything, how would one speed up time.

Get high? :D

From my recent experiences, Marijuana seems to slow down the thought process. Accordingly, your idea of getting high to speed up time would in fact, be inconclusive to my findings and research.
unless of course you like crack, and I dont mean the drug i mean asscrack and your tongue in mine. please respond promptly for my orgasmic experience.

mossfan - I meant the answer humourously. I was not serious, and I do not care to coment on my drug preference.

If time travel was possible, why hasn't anyone ever come from the future to let us know?

I find it hard to believe they have, but in secret. Surely the temptation to tell, to easily put wrongs to right, to solve medical mysteries or even just to dazzle us with technology, would be irrestible.

Maybe they have those time-cops or chrono-troopers in the future who prevent from people to travel to the past in order to preserve their present, but if there will be such things in the future, there will probably be chrono-terrorists, so maybe that theory about parallel universes is right. Whenever someone travels through time, he ends up not just in another time, but in a parallel universe from which there is no way back to the universe he came from.

Maybe they came back, told someone, inadvertently changed the past so they were never actually born, so couldn't actually tinme travel in the first place...

Besides, if someone said they came from the future, would you believe them?

I think what firefly is saying is right. If you were from the future, you couldn't just go around telling people, you'd be thrown in an asylum. The majority of people from Our time do not accept that idea, and therefore you would be called crazy.

Einstein, albeit in defeat, said - :"time is an illusion , no matter how persistent". This kind of topic encompasses too many areas of physics that I have no clue about but in the mean time check this out http://mkaku.org/tt.html

Time is mathmatics and because humans have been clever enough to recognize patterns within the base element functions of our universe, the consept of being able to travel through time with mathmatical manipulation is thought to be possible.

NOT TRUE! Math is purely numbers, people exist in the here and now. Ones existance can only to measured recorded by time not regenerated by going backwards. Things run on patterns because it provides order. The only thing that would happen if Superman flew around the earth backwards would be to knock it out of its orbit. The world only moves forward and at the pace that society allows it to advance.

To believe that time travel was possible would mean that one plays out their life over and over again, also meaning that change would be impossible. How would the world ever have evovled if the energy stored in those first few plants kept renewing themselves with their own energy never giving it up. How would new life form. Would that mean that the sun has been giving the earth the same light rays since it's dawn. Life is not deja vous.

If an object has no mass, it may be able to travel both backwards and forwards through 'time' I have read that neutrinos have absolutely no weight do have a tendancy to dissapear for periods of time before being seen again.
The reason I put the word 'time' in quotes like that is because we don't actually know what time is, or even if it really exists. 'Time' Could be fundementally absurd for all we know!

Time is used as a reference point to facilitate a location of an object or event. If I told you a broke my arm at 11:00 A.M. EDT on Sep 10th, you would be able to understand when that happened in reference to your life. But if I told you I broke my arm 16 Neptunian days ago, most would not be able to understand when that actually happened without first finding out how long a Neptunian day is, then apply that knowledge to our own frame of reference of earth time.

Can one travel in time or to other dimentions? First you would have to change your physical makeup and since one can never know the exact location of every electron, how would you put yourself back together again? One small atom out of place and poof! you are not who you think you are. That has always been the joke about beaming around in Star Trek. If they could assemble atomic particles into humans, why not just assemble a new person down on the planet? Beaming was invented to fit each episode into the allotted time frame. Beaming allowed them to set the the story line, complete the appropriate amount of commercials and have Kirk and crew save the day all within the hour!
