This afternoon, I went to buy a magazine or newspaper in Italian (cause I'm studying Italian now) and I finished finding a french magazine with this news. Have anyone read about it? Some scientists from the University of Genevre discovered that there is no time in the microscopic world.

Have anyone read it? It's in the 1024th edition of the magazine "Science e Vie"...

For those who read French... here's the link:

The full text doesn't seem to be online.

I imagine the article is talking about the apparent "arrow of time" rather than the existence of time itself, though I'd need more details to be sure.

Yes, I would also assume it's the arrow of time, measured by C, P and T if I remember correctly? Man, I should re-read books once every few years...

Siddhartha, the name of the first Buddha. Are you buddhist? I have always thought that buddhism is the only 'ism' that can mesh with science.

heh heh. change the 'ism' to religion. I'm not sure what i was thinking there

I am not sure about the conceptal existence of time and arrow of time also . I have read "Brief of time" of Stephen Hawking. But I don't presume Hawking's view.

Can you explain time as one dimension in Minscopski spacetime. Since it's neccessary to talk about whether or not of time.

Discussion with a cocktail party physicist

Me:Hey
CPP:Hey, How are you going? So what do you do?
Me:I'm a student at the moment.
CPP:Oh,I'vee studied a bit myself. What do you study?
Me:Physics.
CPP:REALLY!!! I know a bit of physics myself
Me:Cool. What have you studied?
CPP:I just finished reading Stephen Hawkings "A brief history of time"
Me(under my breath)"FUCK. I hope he hasn't had too much to drink, he'll be in my fucking ear all night"
Me:Yeah. What did you think?
CPP:I think its all bullshit.
Me:Really, I didn't see that coming!
CPP:Yeah how do you know that we can't go faster than light. I mean how do you really know.
Me:Well, I'm at a cocktail party mate, I really don't want to go into the maths. Have you done much maths.
CPP:Yeah right. I haven't done any maths for years.
Me:Well let me go and get that slab of beer, and we'll sit down and have a nice long talk hey?

That stuff about Cocktail party physicist....soo funny. I've a friend who I'm trying to explain relativity to, and she's kinda... struggling, though I am in some way quite proud of what she does understand. The problem for most people is that the idea of time slowing down etc sounds ridiculous, and they won't accept that it's a proven fact and an awful lot of the things they take for granted rely on that fact.
