Greetings,

Anyone ever heard of something that might disable the previewing of thumbnails in WinXP??
I was just perusing (or trying to..) my various Picture folders yesterday and I can neither get them to show up when the Folder is set to show thumbnails, nor even get them to open up by the usual windows picture viewer. I've done complete virus and spyware scans to no avail, and even System restore rollbacks don't solve the problem. What's even more mysterious is that I can view my pics still using Picasa. This has me stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

You probably accidentally changed the VIEW of your folders. I forget how to change them systemwide, but to change it in the folder you're currently in, click on VIEW on the menu bar, and you'll see THUMBNAILS, TILES, ICONS, LIST, and DETAILS. Those are all to change the file look. Select THUMBNAILS to see what pictures and videos look like.

Nope.
No offense, but I'm not that dense.. :-)
I normally keep all my folders in 'details' view mode, except for my pictures folder. All I get now are those default windows 'thumbnails'.
This is most annnoying, and I still can't figure this out. It's almost as if Windows itself simply cannot recognize the files as pictures.

Greetings,

First try disabling thumbnail caching, which will reduce the chances of crashes due to lack of memory. Go to Tools > Folder Options > View tab and, under Advanced settings, check the option "Do not cache thumbnails".

Let us know if that solves the problem.

Nada.
I'm starting to think this is a registry thing... not that I've been playing around with it but.. it's like Windows isn't recognizing pictures...

Lol, hey, someone had to ask the obvious question. At least now we know that's not the problem, time to try something else. Unfortunately I've no idea. :p
