Sorry if this thread has upset anyone. I wasn't expecting the huge wave of interest and debate it has produced. Yes it's controversial, but I hope that can be forgiven.

Minor update. The firefox is working trouble free. In fact I can't really see much difference. I'm using it for Sciforums, but I would only totally go over to firefox if there were more obvious benefits. I might load it as the main browser on my next computer. This one's stuck with sticky tape.

Now all you have to do is download the "adblock plus" extension, and you'll be in heaven

    adblock? Is that for malware?
I've already got a couple of malware defenses. A Thesaurus would be nice though.

Adblock gets rid banner ads, flash......basically every annoying advert.

You could just add domain names to your HOSTS file pointing to 127.0.0.1

This will mean no matter what browser you use, when the page attempts to resolve the domain name it will loopback to your own computer and load nothing in it's place. Great for dealing with certain advert networks.

I'm now getting a message coming up when I try to run a Youtube video, saying that I need to load the latest version of Adobe Flash. When I try to run that, it tells me to shut down firefox first. When I try to do it through windows, it still says the same.

Is this some kind of MS spoiler? If so it's working, because even though 99% of Youtube is dross, the other 1% is worth more than a spelling checker.

Adobe flash player is OK to install. I allows playback of flash embedded in web pages. Youtube uses flash.

I think Firefox must run in the background even when you close it down.
To load the new Flash software I had to unload Firefox.

I have a spell check loaded as part of the "go advanced". See the ABC at the top with a check mark? Click on that and download the spell check then install.
