I saw this one ep of star trek last night, it was about a race of non gender people. who werent allwoed to label themselves male of female or else theyd be " brain washed" is it just me or is it trying to make a coonection with gay people and lesbion? only it seems that on hteir world things are alot more drastic. I am not one who hates gays or lesbions, its jsut that that ep struck me as different. what do y'all think?

You're thinking of the episode in which Riker meets an "It" and the "It" falls in love with him. Not only did the episode have homosexual over-tones; it had some really bad haircuts.

If you really want to know about Star Trek commenting on the gay life-style, you need look no further then the episode "The Naked Now". There's a page about how Data is representitive of gays in the military:

s Data symbolic of gays in the military?
Out of the closet with Data

The early episodes of the Next Generation that took up the issue of gays and gay rights did so in subtle ways. It was a Data episode, "The Naked Now", where Tasha, her urge for sex stroked by a emotion-altering disease running unchecked through the ship, takes off her uniform, puts on a seductive dress, goes to Data's quarters, seduces him, and then mates with him. But afterwards when Tasha is cured and things returned to normal, she tells Data that "it never happened" and that he must never bring up the subject again.

You can also look up the old sciforums thread in which we talk about this very subject.

A lot of the TNG eps had messages like that in them though it was a lot more obvious with "Enterprise". The politics is pretty much what ruined me on Star Trek.

If Bryan Sykes is right about the future of the Human race, males as a sex are going to be extinct about 250,000 years from now. So we're all going to end up as female (or 'it') whether we like it or not.

Is that the guy who claims the Y chromosome will deteriorate completely by then? This theory seems ridiculous to me since evolution would allow no such thing. Males with diminished Y chromosomes would be unable to reproduce. How would this, therefore, become an ongoing process? Sure the Y chromosome may have shrunk over the eons, but the key functions remain intact. Any mutations that affect the fertility of the male will be strongly selected against.

This episode = deal with your gender issues now.

I'd say it has more to do with accepting transsexuals/eunuchs, looking past the physical and seeing the true beauty inside, rather than homosexuality, although in some people's eyes anything other than heterosexual missionary position sex is homosexual.

The politics and ethics in star trek tng are the elements that put this show a step above other sci-fi IMHO.
