What do you mean? I see it in the OP and in your quote of it. Here is the direct link: http://hotair.cachefly.net/images/2008-03/ab-ben.jpg EDIT: Oh shit, it just disappeared. I'll try to find an alternative source.
But the news is awesome, if true! Looks like the King feels the Saudis are ready to embrace multiculturalism. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
How can he open a church in the "Kingdom" when just last Valentine's Day his regime arrested people celebrating it? Um... how about chopping peoples' heads off for "apostasy" if they convert to Christianity? LOL Man, how can he say "we'll open a church in the Kingdom" with out turning all red and exploding? (no pun intended, of course) OK, let's say that the church actually does open. How long till it gets blown up? And, how many security agents will be responsible for protecting this propaganda item?
Yeah, I'm wondering what he's gonna do with the mutawwas. Dare I hope that their powers will be suitably curtailed. Saudi Arabia is gonna jump on the financial bandwagon and needs a super fast facelift, especially in the light of the economic city and international university coming up. Very interesting. I see KSA is trying to follow the lead of the Emirates. The difference between the 2 is that the Emirates allow foreigners to import their culture with their $$$. Opening a Church is the first step to emulating the Emirates' success. It's really interesting how this will play out. (I mean, how many casualties). Though what people don't know about the Emirates, they have public stonings too. A friend of mine lived in one of the Emirates and said that once he read in a local newspaper there about a woman who got convicted of cheating on her husband and that her sentence was public stoning. KSA is different because it's a pressure cooker of Wahabi fundy ideology. It's the source of most of the trouble that the world (not just the west) is facing with with Islam. All the KSA people have been bombarded with Wahabi nazi ideology for decades, and now they're gonna see a church. It's gonna be like waving a red cloth to a camel's face.
You underestimate the influence of the king. And most people living in KSA are foreign workers including Christians ( Arab Christians too). Plus, Saudis have a lot of money and travel a lot, even if it is to neighboring countries like Syria and Turkey. So I anticipate that they will not be as shocked as you think. I've seen Saudis without hijab in Mumbai and in the US. http://elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2008/02/saudi-women-rush-to-ditch-their-hijab.html
