I was surfing the internet after my Friday afternoon lectures and I was told to enter the following into Google:

inurl:indexFrame.shtml Axis

It returns hundreds of results that give me full control of video cameras in offices, science labs, airports etc.

It's the worst thing that could happen on a lazy Friday afternoon when I have mid-terms next week.

Anyway, I was surfing and I found this camera at Stanford, I am assuming it's some type of experiment but I can't identify it. Can anyone tell me what this is?

And for the record, here are some good ones I found that give you control of the cameras, I feaked this guy out in his office.

When I first was surfing the cameras, there was no on elso controlling them. It's scary. I have a thought: You go on a random camera and then you see yourself in your office/room.

The first one who finds Whitehouse or NASA gets a box of beers from me when/if we meet.

That airport is really interesting.

Tablariddim, if they wanted these feeds secret, there would be a password or better security.

Prawn films don't have a zoom function.

Maybe the URL's Close Philosopher was given just bypass the password. It's surely illegal to be controlling cameras in an international airport?

Well, obviously, many cameras from Axis Communication (www.axis.com) are free for everyone to use. Many can even be used over their own website. Alas, I do not think that this is in any way a breach of security. For example, the cameras of the US Government all require ID and passwords. So I suppose, those that can be viewed, are either advertisements or the people who installed/maintained them do not see a reason to prevent public access.

EDIT:
If you look through the search entries in google, one will also find out, that those cams who are public run either over .edu servers or those of the company, all the other stuff obviously runs over non-public servers. So I do not really think this scary.
