I have been participating at sciforums for a few months, but one of the forums that I tend to avoid is World Events & Politics.

So today I poked my head in again. Rampant nationalism, cultural bigotry, and down
right hatred of others fills this room with an offensive odor.

They should call this room “Things I don’t understand and why I hate them.”

Cant you people just be nice to each other?

I've tried to encourage "nice". It is much easier to be angry and hate then to listen, reflect, take it down a notch and occasional admit that you don't have all the answers.

I would recommend the name be changed to: This isn't an opinion, this is FACT, because I believe it.

and I'll be the first to admit, I have done it too.
At least I've tried to be civil and occasionally rationale about it.

I wont talk for anyother than myself on this one , but I dont feel obligated to act overly civilized with a person that I would be trying to kill if I was to be in my brothers position . Im sure if you would have some Palestinians on this board from Gaza , things would be different in a less moderate way , as long as they're not I think they should be represented by others who have insight and understanding or even agree with their position .

We all know the way the internet is divided isnt entirely representing 6 B peoples .

Come to grips that with the fact that ownership of land is fleeting and that we all must share in the end.

Seriously though, I agree that people are too quick to defend their "beliefs" even when we do not understand what we believe. In most cases our beliefs come from our parents or our peers and are accepted by us without much thought.

Someone somewhere on this forum (in the religion forum) said "In a debate, there's your opinion, the other guy's opinion, and the right one."

In the words of Orwell: "War is peace. Ignorance is Strength. Freedom is slavery."

Those words resonate exactly what the mentality and the atmosphere is in our current culture (atleast here in the US)

Sorry but to all who want world wide peace, well keep on dreaming as long as injustice, and nationalism, Globalization, imperialism Capitalism, inequality, races, faiths, sex, money, etc. Peace will be nothing more than a intelluctual back water.
