I see already this happening among the Sunnis, I guess it will spread even further in the Arab world.

What we should have done instead of hung Saddam is drug him and make him ride a mountain bike so he'd fall and break his neck. Or hey, feed him a pretzel.

That'd be a nice anti-climactic death and would discourage his followers and destroy any chance of martyrdom. Although, hey, it didn't seem to work here in the States. ;)

His death was very climactic, it was like the ending to an epic. He was hanged on a Muslim holiday, just after the pilgrimage in Mecca, somehow supporters of Moqtada al-Sadr (has a militia that kills Sunnis) were there tying the noose around Saddam’s neck, they chanted their leaders name (Moqtada! Moqtada!) and cursed Saddam Hussein (Go to hell (??)), Saddam laughed it off, refused to wear a hood, stood tall and didn’t flinch at all, his last words: “Ashhadu laailahaill-Allah wa ash-hadanna Muhammada Rasulullah, Ashhadu laailahaill-Allah wa ash-hadanna Muhammad”

I hated Saddam Hussein but hey, I’m only human, watching the video has stirred my heart, those men that hanged him couldn’t even show their faces, it was like watching a video released by terrorists, it was barbaric and inhumane, with added insults (something terrorists don’t do). What do we know from the trial? Next to nothing, what about the Kurds, his relationship with America, WMD etc. what was the purpose of his hanging if we didn’t learn anything? It was a farce, it had nothing to do with justice. At the end of it all, we can say Saddam lived and died like a lion, the same with his sons. I respect him for the way he went, if you’re going to die that’s the way to go!

Saddam Hussein maybe gone but the Americans, Saudis, Israelis and Iranians will never forget him. He will no doubt be an important figure for the Sunni Arabs in the Sunni-Shia conflict that is unfolding in the Mid-East now.

Ironically, I think the US will end up supporting the Sunnis in Iraq once again. The US and Iran are poised to clash, radical Shias closely linked with Iran have infiltrated every institution in Iraq, their death squads are killing Sunnis left, right, centre. The influential Saudis (America's friend) have said they will support and fund Iraq’s Sunnis if a civil war breaks out. All that suggests America should be backing the Sunnis - they need another Saddam! :rolleyes:
