View Full Version : There is more
sisyphus__ 08-18-07, 11:01 AM There obviously is more to be done in philosophy. I am not going to quote Glaucon (who I call "the great"), in his saying "this would refute occams razor... or" as he goes on in a thread titled Epistemology. Infact there are books to be made still, and questions to be asked. Otherwise, they would be presented forth in a book as coherent and clear meaning to these remaining questions.
I feel, that there is more to be done and that this is great.
I also am tierd of all of the senseless threads in the philosophy forums.
I feel, ... sorry I was just interrupted if you cannot tell. Anyway, the philosophy and such needs books which explain these things and philosophy must be completed. There are many things such as ... I forget the name of it correct me if I am wrong or not: where we just get a computer to analize all possibilities and have it explain everything... but then this lady replied "that would be boring!"
Isn't it true that it is difficult for a human to complete a journey which understands philosophy? ... What about post modernism? All of the stuff that I read in "teach yourself postmodernism" ... I am tierd of the garbage I mean. I understand most of the garbage. The question as the thread stated, there is more; is a question designed perhaps, to promote the question what more is there. What must we do? What more is to be done? How are we to take philosophy? I think that that is the most profound question, and if you understand me then reply with such in mind as you understand also the other words written above.
Killjoy 08-18-07, 11:32 AM How are we to take philosophy?
With a large grain of salt...
I submit that all "important" philosohical questions were posed long ago, and amount essentially to What are we ? and Why are we here ?
(the hoary old shibboleth of " the meaning of life " and inquiries after it being to my mind merely a subsidiary of the latter )
All effort directed toward answering these questions has - IMHO - been nigh-unto futile, as beyond what definitions we can make as to our biological nature, it's still basically anybody's guess as to whether we amount to Thinking Batteries, Rebel Apes, Divine Creations , or whatnot, whether we exist because of God's Plan or Sheer Coincidence, and whether Life is the Most Profound Gift or an accident.
Any elaboration on the aforementioned themes seems simply to me merely a symptom of human intellect's tendency to re-define and re-describe as though doing so conferred a more thorough understanding of a particular concept.
I'm not implying that it's not fun to speculate...
What the hell - being saddled with this 3-pound agglomeration of chemo-electrically active fat inside one's noggin should have some positive side effects !
;)
sisyphus__ 08-18-07, 11:46 AM Thanks killjoy.
I'd much rather be a buddhist.
Read-Only 08-18-07, 12:07 PM Everyone enjoys indulging in a little philosophical thought now and then, Brent. But the truth is that it's THE biggest waste of time there is. If you've nothing else to do while waiting on the train to arrive, sure - think about it if you wish. But it never really provides any answers to 99.99999% of the topics it address. You'll get opinions but no solid answers. In fact, most of the questions it poses has NO answers anyway.
There will probably be those here that will disagree with me - and that's fine. They are just expressing their philosophical viewpoint, which, in fact is also totally worthless.

You know the saying; "the circle is round, if you are too smart you be insane, if you know all you are back at the beginning".
I know you struggle with things sometimes, we all do you know. I'm sorry I've still haven't been that much available in msn even if we had a great conversation last time.
Who are we?
Why does these things happen to us?
There are things incomplete in philosophy (or let's say it straight, the search for truth and insight).
What will happen when we complete the puzzle?
And some come here to judge us...
I'm sorry if I disappointed you one time. That is not the issue, it never was and never will be, but I'm only human you know.
We struggle to complete the puzzle, when we do what will happen?
Stick with me, it has to do with love. We want to satisfy, the need.
I think we want to change the world. Some say, the change is within, to a part I can agree, but what is changed within so that we don't want to change the world any longer? Good or bad?
I don't ask sarcastic questions, I simply don't know.
What we need, integrity, we need foundation, we can't be flowing in all directions.
I hope you see.
Also, for you I think that the whole need not be the part, but the part need to be a reflection of the whole.
I DON'T like when people say that all has been figured out, that the impossible can't be done and when philosophy has become dull, it is NEVER.
Some questions last forever, just face it everybody that follows that argument, they need to be.
sisyphus__ 08-18-07, 03:27 PM Thx Cy
I am too poor to understand how to reply to your message. It maybe has to do with understanding issues and such. I thought the message was profound but maybe and surely is [edit: thought i said incomplete instead of complete, as I edit in to add "in"] incomplete. Don't worry bout the messenger as we will talk later.
I don't understand the meaning presented. Can someone else say what I was thinking? This will be tough :D

You know, there are things in this world that can't be explained, and also more interesting there are things that are told to a person which no one else has heard, there are unique things in this world. I am straight forward to you.
I like the feeling of finding something new, not only new, but a new category, do you know what I mean?
You know, I cannot pretend to know what you think, and that is not my purpouse with what I have written either (it would be a nice trick if only so).
But that doesn't mean that I don't understand what you mean, and if I don't please explain it in a different way, cause I'm not impossible, I WANT to know :)
sisyphus__ 08-18-07, 06:03 PM Hey hey good post man give me a second.
