Some argue its already here. I don't think we are there yet, but we may well be headed that way. And I've nothing to say on the subject that hasn't been spoken more elegently by others in the past. So here are a few quotes, chosen and put in an order to illustrate the coming of both theocracy and fascism to the United States:

"...people can always be brought to do the bidding of the leaders...All you
have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce (opponents)
pacifists for lack of patriotism."
-- Herman Goering at The Nuremburg Trials.

God gave the savior to the German people. We have faith, deep and unshakeable faith, that he was sent to us by God to save Germany.
-- Hermann Goering, speaking of Hitler

I've heard the call. I believe God wants me to run for president.
-- George W. Bush, quoted in George Magazine, September, 2000

"Why is this man in the White House? The majority of Americans did not vote for him. Why is he there? And I tell you this morning that he's in the White House because God put him there for a time such as this."
--Lt Gen William Boykin, speaking of G. W. Bush, New York Times, 17 October 2003

The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.
-- George Washington, Treaty of Tripoli, 1796

"The incidents in Florida came so fast and furiously and Republican tactics
were so outrageous, the implication go beyond the capacity of belief of most
Americans, who like to think that their elections are fair, that their
democracy is true. The Republicans effectively take advantage of the
misunderstanding of their true motives.
-- David Cogswell in "The Fortunate Son"

"The great masses of the people will more easily fall victim to a great lie than a small one. " -- Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler

No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God.
-- George Bush Sr., 1988

Secular schools can never be tolerated because such a school has no
religious instruction and a general moral instruction without a religious foundation is built on air; consequently, all character training and religion must be derived from faith.... We need believing people.
-- Adolf Hitler, April 26, 1933

Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law.
--Thomas Jefferson, February 10, 1814

"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, pull back the curtains, and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater."
-- Frank Zappa

Following Jefferson with Zappa? Hey, truth is truth!
