Take it easy. Later. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

To all Sciforums members who are announcing their departures:

    Spare us.

I mean, fine. I'm really sorry you found your fellow posters to be a negative experience, but quit your whining. The demonstrative pseudo-exits are annoying. I don't really enjoy it when other people feel that alienated but the standing by the door and saying, "Bye, people are mean!" reminds me of a child with an apple, a soda, and a favorite Mace Windu action figure in a knapsack standing by the front door yelling, "I'm running away now! Nobody loves me!"

Alternate solution: smoke a hash joint and listen to Portishead.

After three years of posting here, I have to say that the last several months have been the most ridiculously puerile I have experienced at Sciforums. The last theist/atheist spat took me well by surprise because I had expected a period of peace after the last Christian/infidel round. But it seems that people don't really want that around here.

And now it's getting to the point where we have to put a sign up: Please form a single-file line and exit in an orderly fashion.

Tyler, for instance, has pointed out that he doesn't want to be a detrimental influence at Sciforums. This is well understood, but when I stop and consider what that includes, well ...

    • I could have made that decision when Tony1 chose his disrespectful path of diversion, condemnation, bigotry and supremacy. For the longest time, that guy basically lived to bury intelligent posts under a mountain of "pithy" (

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

) diversions that had little to do with any topic whatsoever and much to do with agitating other posters.

    • I could have made that decision when KalvinB would simply sit there and have his jackass tantrums.

    • I could have made that decision in response to Adam's duplicity.

    • I could have made that decision in response to GB-GIL Trans-global's violent tantrums.

There are a number of times where I could have looked at the situation and said, as Tyler did, that I don't feel I'm being allowed to make a positive contribution to this community.

And I've said that I'm perfectly willing to meet anyone at this forum at any level of debate they choose. (There is one level I won't stoop to, and that's threats of violence.) And that willingness to engage is why I've never fled this site after three years. Nobody chases me out except Porfiry.

This is Dave's site, but it's my community. It's all of our community. And I am not going to pack my bags and leave just because someone decided to be a pain in the ass this week. And I encourage my fellow posters to consider the same.

Because all anyone has to do according to that principle of positive and negative contributions is to start agitating a good poster. Hammer away, be vitriolic, mean, petty, arrogant, and basically full of shite. If you do it with enough style, other posters will tell the offended poster how wise and pithy and intelligent you are.

And we all know that kind of behavior is crap, but people seem to prefer it at the same time. Ad hominem, "A.F.I."--think of how much we could have avoided if the people complaining about those ideas weren't among the classic and primary offenders. And think about it: as these legions stomp forth across Sciforums, is the only alternative to pack your bags and leave because we don't want to argue?

Hold the line. Hold the line. Demand excellence, and someday we'll get something a little closer to it than the present condition.

But if you're determined to leave, then leave already and quit whining about it.

thank u for flying with us,
    Tiassa

    Why log off?

    Computers are best left running.

Broadband internet has a fixed monthly cost. It doesn't matter if you spend one hour or five hundred hours online.

You don't actualy have to sit at the pc while logged on.

Maybe you didn't know about that last one

not always... when my computer runs.. its hard to catch.. and when it gets tired.. it falls asleep... no matter what you're doing when it happens. (but you do learn to save your work on a very regualr basis)

Do I have to explain everything??

When you're computer is running, you have to leash it. That's the law.

Of course yours falls asleep, you do not moderate his running with the leash.

    ts ts ts...
