View Full Version : Theism causes delusional idiocy and dishonesty
In reaction to S.A.M.'s inane thread "Atheism causes delusional idiocy and dishonesty" (http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=79493)
So, what sooner causes delusional idiocy and dishonesty ? Theism or Atheism ?
I'm betting on the former.
cosmictraveler 04-07-08, 02:23 PM It's the parents that teach their children the basics of living within every culture. If their training and guidance isn't very well done then they are the ones to start the ball rolling either toward a better life or not. It really doesn't matter what they believe in for the most part, as long as they teach their kids right from wrong then the kids should be OK. :)
shichimenshyo 04-07-08, 02:26 PM I would say the former makes people more deluded in general, but those deluded few do not speak for the belief as a whole.
spidergoat 04-07-08, 02:27 PM I think that wasn't her premise, but rather the idea that people should be personally offended if their beliefs are criticized.

I know it wasn't her premise. It was her title though..

I dont think SAM would ever make a title like that. such titles only provoke and instigate poor behavior among the forum members. As a mod I'm pretty sure SAM is above all that.
You should feel ashamed Enmos:mad:

Offended were you? Good, please vote no in the poll in my thread. :)

spidergoat 04-07-08, 02:32 PM OK, it's your thread. I think theism per se doesn't have many qualities that would lead to delusion or dishonesty, it's just the theology associated with particular brands of theism. They are usually transmitted by a person who attains a status with history so as to be considered, if not a diety, then at least a perfect person who cannot be questioned. That leads to a fixed ideology and the possibility that reality and ideology don't align.

As atheists generally do not believe in anything supernatural I'd say that they run a much smaller chance of delusional idiocy at least. I reckon dishonesty is evenly dispersed between the two.

Cool ! :) Or not.. (?) :mufc:
