America has hit rock bottom. Whilst searching for a new book to read I came across an interesting find. My searches lead me to amazon.com, the largest online book selling store. Now, I’m not having a problem with the large selection, the problem I’m having right now is amazon.com's best seller.

The current best seller isn't an Albert Camus book, it isn't even Ayn Rand. I wish it was Stephen King, because then I would at least have a smidgen of respect for the American people. The current best seller happens to be The South Beach Diet by Arthur Agatston.

I can understand that America is overweight. But does the best seller have to be a fucking diet book?

At least Michael Moore’s new book is at number seven.

My bad Counsler , perhaps I was a bit carried away by the potential relation between your title and the location of your problem , it appeared as typical to me but was obviously misplaced in your post .

As for your question , it is rather logical , clearly a majority of bookbuyers struggles in one way or the other with their weight , which I think reflects the given society in general pretty well .

I think it is in that relation between the bookbuyers and general society where you might interesting things .

Best seller lists are mostly PR. I wouldn't fret too much about it. They rank books by the number sold in a specific period of time (typically a week) not by the total number of sales.

These aren't normal book readers. These are people who have never read a book, I would think that they haven't. Doesn't the world have enough diet material already?

I can understand that America is overweight. But does the best seller have to be a fucking diet book? I think most people still buy their books at nearby bookstores big or small, where you can browse and really LOOK at a book. (and not have to pay shipping). IMO the majority of people buying these books off amazon have money to blow on whatever is latest and greatest. (picture 30yr+ housewives on a spending allowance from hubby). atleast that's the picture i get. Whether its close to true or not, who knows, but atleast maybe it made you feel better. :)
