View Full Version : The real "Where do you stand politically?"

Things can get so jumbled with the liberal/conservative argument, and generalizations aren't hard to come by when dealing with the pessimistic, so thats why there's sites like this.

http://politicalcompass.org/

It will tell you where you stand socially AND economically. So, all the uneducated out there that think Stalin and Hitler were the same. . . you're only half correct.

By the way, this site ranked me as a (1,1) but I usually consider myself to be a hardline conservative (Yes, they do exist outside of captivity!)

I took that on another board last week. 4 to the left. 3 down. Compared me to Thomas Paine and Noam Chomsky.

Lets get some things clear, so the rest of the forum-goers will know what the basis for all thought in here is coming from.

Answer these as clearly and concisely as possible . . (and of course there are exceptions, but I'd just like what first pops into your head as morally correct)

1. Do you believe America has the obligation to help the empoverished and despotically ruled countries of the world?

2. Do you believe America has the right to fight a war - period?

3. Do you believe America has the right to make any sort of "pre-emptive" strike against any country regardless of the circumstances?

i'll think of more later.

4. Do you believe that there are neither preditors nor prey naturally occuring in Nature?

5. Do you believe that Nature abhors Alpha Males?

6. Do you believe in the Tooth Fairy?

Got a 0,-3.5 which makes me lean towards anarchy...

As for the new questions:
1. Do you believe America has the obligation to help ... countries of the world?
YES - The more countries that can research/develop the better of humanity will be

2. Do you believe America has the right to fight a war - period?
YES - but not merely to expand

3. Do you believe America has the right to make any sort of "pre-emptive" strike against any country regardless of the circumstances?
NO - but there are circumstsances where I'd accept it

4. Neither preditors nor prey naturally occuring in Nature?
Everything is both... we usually just classify them in respect to humans

5. Do you believe that Nature abhors Alpha Males?
Not sure

6. Do you believe in the Tooth Fairy?
I still get 25cents for every tooth... I want to see some inflation

7. trolls?
They smell something on this forum that attracts them. I think they have an appetite for thesist and athesists who are engaged in debate.

Mr G isn't being trollish, he's merely mixing philosphy and politics, which in this thread is apparently not allowed.

I have to say that although interesting, it would be foolish to base your politics on an online poll. Educate yourself, and then make a decision.

Did you take the test? The questions don't need any previous base of knowledge, really, they are just questions that get down to the root of all ideologies. (ie. "Do you believe prisons are for rehabilitation or punishment?"

This poll in particular seems pretty silly. I agree that politics can't be drawn accuartely on a left-right line, but I also don't think it can be accurately relflcted in a two-dimensional square. People feel differently about different issues for reasons that go beyond whether the govt should have more or less control or about economics...there are people(like myself) for example, who believe that marijuana should be legal, but that business' and individuals should be required to respect the environment, these are contradictory according to this idea as one calls for govt control and one the opposite, perhaps the square could be made a cube by adding the environmental postion to its consideration, or a tesseract for something else...

This poll also asked how people feel about statements like:

"Abstract art that doesn't represent anything shouldn't be considered art at all."
"Astrology accurately explains many things."

I do have to agree with jps that this is not very accurate. It is however still an OK base for how people thin 'on average'.

Hey, I scored farther out toward the rim than Ghandi, according to their assessments. But I'm quite the "Libertarian Leftist"; anyone here could have told us that, right?

hah. Economic Left/Right: 0.38
Authoritarian/Libertarian: 1.13

So I'm confused, according to this test I'm pretty much.. nothing. hehe.
I found alot of the questions to be way to general- Personally, I beleive very strongly in the free market, and that government should take as little of a role in society as possible without security problems.

This test obviously doesnt support that...

it might be nice to include a lil description of urself, or how accurate the test might be, cause i'm pretty sure nobody cares if the site thinks zigglewaggledumforde is a right wing liberal.

I think by reading our posts, even better than reading our self-descriptions, anyone can pigeonhole us each at will.
