My favorite animal is the Rhinoceros. I think the Javan and Black Rhinos are my favorite but the sumatran and the rest are fascinating as well. I think they're absolutely beautiful. The Black Rhino has a prehensile lip and is usually the most aggressive of all Rhinos. The White Rhino is not white but named after the Africaan word Weit which means wide after it's wide, flat mouth. The Javan Rhino is one of the rarest mammals in the world. There are only about 60 in the wild and none in captivity. Sumatran Rhinos are a distant relative to the Wooly Rhino and are the only Rhinos with hair on their bodies. The Indian Rhino has large horns and has been successful at increasing it's numbers. The Asian species are more shy than the African Rhinos. Due to their beautiful "horns" and loss of habitat most Rhino species are in dire straits. Even though the horns are not ivory and are composed of the same stuff as our own hair and nails. It would be a true shame to loose these lovely animals or any species due to human intervention, one can accept nature but it's terrible to anihalate any living creature. For more info on Rhinos and their conservation go to www.animal.discovery.com/features/rhino/weblinks.html. If this link doesn't work go to animal planet on discovery.com and click on the icon with the rhino. It has info of other animals as well. Rhinos are under the large mammal category.
