A 200 mile bridge seen under the Indian sea
was discovered by satellite last year.
Astronauts are amazed to see
the Great Wall of China and pyramids.
Dwarfing our civil engineering feats.

Monuments of craggy men
and the occasional queen
are shorn from mountains
all over the Earth.
There is even one on Mars.

The Andes by the sea
and Nasca plains
swept by the pacific breeze
show animals and insects
sculpted deftly with ease.

But on a small reef near Madagascar
is a memory unseen by all but the gulls.
An island portrait watching the stars
with a gracious knowing smile
Because of the love she inspired.

She taught her people the stars
and dog star worlds unseen
With music sweeter than guitars
her gift was the night and dreams

Speaking of miracles present and past
Amazed by all that she knew
People wanted her wisdom to last
Her remaining words are few

"Wars from the sky
and between men
makes us ask why.
Yet we are lucky
to begin again."

The land was salted to make her face clear
The forests and beach is her hair
Her eyes and mouth were made of quartz
Her friends are all gone now and soon she'll be too.
By a large hotel and golf course.

Perhaps she looked like you.
