It's about time someone made this thread. I've been hearing the rumors for a Google phone for quite some time now and it finally seems as though there's enough evidence to say that it (or something like a phone) will be coming out soon (perhaps before 2008).

From what I've heard it's not going to be as pretty as the iPhone, but it will do nearly everything the iPhone does (Wifi, surf the web, play music/video), except it will be much, much cheaper. From what I know, the monthly bill for the iPhone service is something like $100. Not only will the gPhone, that is, the physical product itself, be much cheaper, but the service will be drastically cheaper. I've heard using the gPhone will be almost free.

Here a Google exec admits that the Google phone is real.

Here is a very good article that suggests the gPhone services may be free. Just like it usually is and it could potentially destroy the entire fucking cell phone industry. I've never had a cell phone, but if Google came out with something like this, I would definitely be onboard, and I couldn't imagine why others wouldn't suddenly throw their old phones away.

Great, we'll all be doomed to walk around with a box built for pure advertisement. I wouldn't be surprised if it's tailored to the individual too making those adverts for all those things you want (or in the cases of adults with children and such things, objects of desire the children don't really need but want and will plague for until they get it). Obviously to get those advertisements out there you couldn't charge for say 'Searching information' or 'accessing multimedia content' however you could still charge for phone calls and data transfer across networks.

I've killed two cells previously, I'm on my third and I loath them with a vengence.... not as much as I'd loath a new gimicky 'Free' (*Advertisementware and Demographics study tool) goadphone. (Google Advertisment Phone)

Well, the thing with Google is that advertising is always non-invasive. I use Google all the time and hardly ever notice the advertisements. I'm sure the phone will work the same way. And I bet there will be a way to get rid of the ads if you pay for the service.

Nobody will be doomed to anything; you don't need to get the phone if you don't want to! But if you don't mind non-invasive ads, you can potentially have a really cheap smart phone. I think it's going to have GPS too.
