Yeah, I guess there is much debate about this one. As for me, there are several: Lunges - I actually hate doing this exercise. I dread thinking about them and I go through this annoying internal battle throughout my workout leading up to them, but I absolutely feel what lunges do for me. The calories burned and the muscles shredded by a proper lunge are nearly unparalleled. Throw on some extra weights and the benefits are multiplied. Barbell Squats - Perhaps my absolutely favorite exercise. If I could do these every day, I would; but I keep to a twice-a-week schedule on the squats. There is no other exercise that builds the quads, glutes and to a lesser degree, hams, calves and the lower back. Barbell Dead-lift - My second favorite exercise, and another one I look forward to. Dead-lifts build the erector spinae, glutes, adductor magnus, hamstrings, quadriceps, and the soleus. After a solid dead-lift routine, I walk away feeling the strain and the benefit overall. Chest Dips - Nothing works the triceps and upper pecs like chest dips. With my body weight and genetic family history of less-than-stellar arms, I utilize no added weight. Whatever your level (assisted, non-assisted, weighted), triceps are the key to big arms, and nothing works triceps like chest dips. Standard Bench Press - This one requires almost no explanation since it's universal for building the chest and do a lesser degree, the tricep muscles. Preacher Curls - Another standard exercise that strongly targets the biceps. ~String
sex, does the same and its more fun. But I suppose if you don't have a partner, running would be what I would do.
I have a friend of mine who got up every day at 5 AM to run no matter what the conditions. He just had his second knee surgery done and now can only ride a bike for excercise. So I'm glad I didn't get into that routine. I enjoyed walking , still have a tread mill, and swimming.
I'm not fanatic about running, I just do it whenever convenient to get from A to B. My day-to-day sports is martial arts, but it has a load of exercises and no single one I like better than running, if taken by one and not as a complex.
I can't swim, it's always an adventure forcing small rivers during hiking. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I was offered to join our navy once, but I declined, because I said I couldn't swim, but the captain I was talking to said that he likes crew that can't swim because they then try to hold the ship above water above all cost, when others might just jump ship. Running has some horrible effects on the body. Namely the knees and hips. Humans just weren't designed to "trot" along at the pace they do in a typical run. Humans are, evolutionary speaking, walkers or sprinters, but not "runners". For women, it's even worse. The ligaments that hold up the breasts are stretched ever so slightly every time the foot slams to the ground. Even the tightest sports bra will not hold back the effects of constant running. Don't get me wrong, I love to run, it's just not all that good for the bones and ligaments. ~String
I would say that swimming is absolute as it works all muscles...problem is for me is that the ocean is hard to access. and pools are way too chlorined and too small.
I think swimming is the best way to burn calories and build/tone muscle. Is this proven anywhere than anyone knows about?
It's pretty good..the best way to build muscles is with weights, the best ways to burn cals are running, cycling, swimming, sex, shit any sustained cardio work. Swimming is the least taxing on the joints ( although the freestyle action is not without its problems for the shoulders) It has been proven that the heart expands more during swimming ( weight bearing aspect of water and the prone position make sure of this). For me squash is the best way to burn cals ( I actually enjoy killing myself aerobically for an hour or so) and BTW, relating to another thread about arse sexiness, squash is killer on the buns ( String take note) Swimming in a pool is completely fucked, the ocean or nothing Personally, I don't bother swimming for fitness, two or three hours of freeding/spearfishing is a major, major workout with the added bonus of usually coming home with several kilos of fresh seafood.
Swimming, IMO is the best cardio exercise. It works every movement muscle in the body and it is zero impact. And yes, the freestyle does stress the shoulders more than other styles, but the butterfly looks like it would be just as taxing on your shoulders. I like the breast stroke the best. You get excellent cardio with it, and it requires the least endurance; it takes a while for you to tire out from it.
I don't understand how everybody can just say a bunch of workouts and claim they are "best". Best for what results?, if you want to increase your chest size and strength then obviously bench pressing and push ups are a good start, but thats not best if you want to increase your stamina or work on your quads. There is no "best" workout it just depends on the goals you want to reach. peace.
I did not know that. I always thought it was called freestyle. I've never heard it called the front crawl before. Thanks for the heads up.
During freestyle competitions the swimmer can use which ever stroke they like. It just so happens that you only normally see them using one stroke; the front crawl, because it tends to be the fastest.
