The sciences are good models of our world, but like any model, they aren't completely accurate. More and more threads will be added to this central topic as I get them done and will be found in a variety of the forums. Each thread will be marked with "TUS" (The Unscientific Sciences). I will update and change this post often to show what chapters and sub-threads I've added and changed. Table Of Contents: This is set up in an outline style. Capital letters are for chapters threads. The Scientific Method (coming soon) Purpose: I'm creating this multi-thread because, on this board, I see a lot of blind trust in the sciences. However, I'm not trying to say "don't listen to the sciences", but to get you to question the things you learn – even if it's in print, even if it's said by a nobel prize winning scientist. If you are a scientist or plan to be one, this multi-thread may help you become a better one. I also hope to learn from you, the posters, from the threaded discussions. Questions: So what do I post in this thread? The central thread (the one you are in now) is mainly reserved for reactions and thoughts for the larger, overall topic, but it can also be used to call attention to errors in the overall structure (such as "I think Chapter such and such should be posted in this thread and not that thread). It might be better to just PM me on errors. I will also be addressing question about the multi-thread format in this thread, since it's new and can be confusing. Can I make threads for this multi-thead discussion? I can't stop you from posting a thread that ties in with this multi-thread, but it is up to me if I want to link this TOC to it or not. If you have an idea for a thread within this multi-thread, feel free to Private Message me. If I find your idea fits well, I will be open to linking this TOC to your thread. Why has this thread been placed in Free Thoughts? This thread has been placed in Free Thoughts because it's linked threads will be posted in a variety of threads and cover a wide basis of thoughts, which may include things like philosophy and religion, not just the sciences. So moderators, please don't move it. If you do move one of the threads, please let me know, so I can change links on other threads.
Ok the first initial links are up. You can post on the overall topic here, or post on the more specific areas in the chapter and sub-threads (currently one of each). You can use the Table of Contents links up above to get to them. You can also post technical difficulties here (bad links and such), but it may be better to PM me on those.
Added: A2 What's With the Hole in Your Chest Doc? to Chapter A - Perception. Also I was wondering what you posters think about the multi-thread idea. Is it a good thing? Too complex? Does it make sense to you? I don't mind if you post feedback here; you can also PM me too.
I like the idea. It sounds loke a good way to let a discussion branch off into related topics and still keep the main idea intact. Also, it allows the TUC topic to wnader into different area sucha s the philosophy behind science, general thoughts on the subject, ect and lets each part go where it should (philosophy, free thought, human sciences). Best idea in posting format I've seen ever. Its funny.
