View Full Version : The Ultimate Question
hotsexyangelprincess 01-02-04, 09:12 PM Ok guys here's the age old sci-fi question(with some others): Who would win and explain why...:m:
1. Star Wars or Star Trek
2. Lord of the Rings or Dune
3. Bolo or Ogre
4. Farscape Crew or Firefly Crew
5. Dark Angel or Buffy
my answers-
1. star trek(they've got Q)
2. dune(the fremen are so much better than rohan riders)
3. Bolo(It's got the Hellbores)
4. Firefly(they've got shotguns)
5. buffy(she never dies)
CounslerCoffee 01-02-04, 10:36 PM 1. Star Trek. They have Q.
2. LOTR. They have Gandalf and the Ents.
3. Don't know what you're talking about here.
4. Farscape. Firefly has shotguns? Try pulse pistols on farscape. Also, D'argos ship would kick major arse against the Serenity.
5. Buffy. Her kung-fu is stronger.
SpyMoose 01-13-04, 02:22 PM Dune would so totaly win over LOTR, Why?
Because although they just HATED to use them, everyone had guns! How long is it going to take these allegedly spice enhanced super brains to figure out that if they croutch behind a rock with a gun instead of charging with a knife they can kill a lot more efficiently?
BigBlueHead 01-13-04, 03:43 PM Well... um... where are they fighting?
1. Whether or not Q would represent unfettered power in the SW universe is open to interpretation.
2. Power in the Dune universe came partly from thousands of years of maneuvering by religious/political orders; also, the capabilities of "Dune" depends on what point in the 10,000+ year timeline you look at.
In general I would think that the Face Dancers would be the most dangerous things from Dune.
3. Dang... which Bolo? Some of them were smaller and weaker than the nuclear-proof Ogre. Others were bigger and better armed. Again, timeline problems.
4. Never saw either of these shows...
5. This battle would be decided by People magazine.
guthrie 01-13-04, 04:14 PM DAmn damn damn, how come everyone else seems to know about bloody bolos except me? And ive been collecting books for 8 years, from literally hundreds of charity shops to many, many 2nd hand shops in 4 major cities and several small towns, and I still cant find a Keith Laumer bolo book, despite having been told about them by 2 different people in the same year.
SpyMoose 01-13-04, 04:40 PM Ive never heard of bolos or ogres. unless ogres are just the generic type of beast and not something specific. Also for the purpose of this, whole vurses thing, maybe we should assume that all the combatative parties are meeting up to do battle in the smurfs village? you know, sort of a nutral middle ground. AND, I dont think its fair to bring in Q because he totaly wouldnt fight on star treks side, he would just watch in an amused way and maybe screw with some people a little.
As for the comment about the face dancers being most deadly aspect of Dune I have to dissagree. First off, a mentat is as wise as any wizard, except maybe white. The parana bindu training makes some of Dune's wariors simply unbeatable by axe weilding midgets, and of course: laz guns laz guns laz guns. I dont care what army of orcs or elves you have, a guy on a hill with a laz gun is probably going to win. And oh yeah, there are also more than a million worlds in "The known universe" so i think that if everyone from dune was a tripple amputee armed with a throw pillow they could still win through numbers. ... but on that note i guess it WOULD be hard to get more than just a few houses to act together at once to try to beat off the middle earth guys.
As for Middle earth... they have pretty steel, the undead, middevel seige weapons, big river horses (that'll come in handy if the entire dune army is waiding through a river at the same time) some ents and trolls, and maybe cap it off with a white wizard, some nazguhl and a balrog. There could be some tence moments, but I think that fairly quickly the wizard and nazguhl and balrog would be all on thier own. I recomend that the dune folks should try to get a worm to eat the balrog.
wow, when i have to wait for my classes I can just keep typing cant i?
1. Star Trek, resistance is futile
2. Dune, Even if you take only the fremen and pit them against all of middle earth they'd still win with superior weapons and fighting styles.
3. I have no idea what a bolo is.
4. If it's crew against crew without ship interference, the firefly crew would win on the principle of shoot first ask later. Even with the ships involved, River would probably do something sci-fi-ish and kick butt.
5. If we're talking about a beauty pegeant, Dark Angel, without question. If we're comparing the wast amounts of boring the shows produce, I'd say it's a tie. If on the other hand we're talking about a fistfight to the death, outside, in the rain, and you throw in a little mud... I'd say the audience wins.
BigBlueHead 01-14-04, 07:55 AM Spymoose: Bolos and Ogres are both types of tanks. Bolo is a term from Keith Laumer's short story collection "The Compleat Bolo". Ogre was a giant tank from the Steve Jackson Games' game Ogre.
guthrie 01-14-04, 12:45 PM I think there was possibly even a book or two based on Bolos. they were essentially large autonomous tanks invented some time around now, I think, and over the years to more and more sophisticated and intelligent, untill one could basically control parscs of space. The larger oens were nuke proof, armed with everythign you coudl think of, but again it depends which one you are talking about at which stage of development.
SpyMoose 01-14-04, 04:56 PM In that case I would have to say that Bolo's would almost certainly loose, crushed under the titanic weight of the sillyness of thier own concept
Leviticus 01-27-04, 12:56 PM by the way if the LOTR v Dune fight was happening before the 3rd film/book then u could get Aragorn to raise all those dead people and they would beat the hell out of Dune because no weapons actully hurt them........
no matter how many millions of worlds there are...
SpyMoose 01-27-04, 12:59 PM Sure, but if LOTR gets to use thier ultimate weapon, so does DUNE. The scattering makes it so there are more than just a few million worlds, there are uncountable worlds. Those dead guys didnt seem to have unlimited speed. The DUNE universe probably grows at a much more significat rate than a hand full of dead guys could manage to stop, especialy when they are spending all thier time in transit between planets. (We dont even know that the ghosts can reach low orbit let alone outer space)
Leviticus 01-29-04, 03:02 AM if the dead guys cant be destroyed though then no matter how slow they are they could never be beat. If the Dune ppl tried to destrooy them from orbit then dead guys just have to wait until they run out of weapons and come down and try to take them on 1v1. Then, the deadguys take em to pieces....
Cause nothing kills them- no matter how powerful their weapon- unless the Dune guys get their hands on Aragorns Sword- which can beat 'em.
SpyMoose 01-29-04, 12:50 PM Hey, I'm not even talking about fighting them. What I'm saying is that the DUNE universe has enough planets and enough people to keep thier population growing despite the complete destruction of a planet by ghosts every few milenia or so. I dont think the ghosts can fold space, so its going to be hard for them to get from planet to planet, and by god there are a LOT of planets even if you dont count the scattering.
BigBlueHead 01-29-04, 02:55 PM Actually, they'd just have to kill Aragorn - no more King of Gondor, no more indentured undead guys. Probably pianos from orbit would do the trick for Aragorn.
Also, how would the dead get to other planets? Walk?
SpyMoose 01-29-04, 03:44 PM this begs another question: Wasnt Sauron the necromancer? You could have foled me, what with his reliance on living orcs. Aragorn on the other hand had an army of the undead whitch was put into safe keeping for him by his father who's curse is the reason thier spirits couldn't move on. They seem pretty selective about who they are going to call a necromancer.
BigBlueHead 01-29-04, 03:51 PM Traditionally necromancers spoke to the dead more than using them as servants. The only dead that showed up in LOTR and the Hobbit were those particular ones, since (as I recall) the wraiths were not technically dead, but rather just changed by magic.
SwedishFish 01-31-04, 01:30 PM not aragorn's father, isildur his distant ancestor. they were only cursed because they broke their oath.
the necromancer was cast out by the wizards, already lacking much of his former strength. if sauron regained the ring he totally could have taken on anyone including dune people.
daydream_believer 02-12-04, 04:06 AM 42......because the real ultimate question as all Hitchhiker's fans know, is what do you get when you multiply 6 by 9? and the answer's 42.....i always knew there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe......btw y'all......6 times 9 does equal 42......in base 13.....
