I hereby declare THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION to be the worst movie ever made. If it were up to me, I would make a law that anyone who watches this monstrosity ought to be gassed! I hate this movie and will preach about my hatred towards it until the day I die!

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not(huh... you probably are), but its one of my all time favourites. Waaay up there. I've watched it 5 or 6 times, and I'd be comfortable watching it another 7.

The film was on tv recently, and I watched it for the xth time, I really love it.

Yes, the guy just never gave up, and the part about music:

Andy was put into a solitary cell for a month, and when he comes back, his mates ask him how he managed to get through it:
"I had mister Mozart there to keep me company." and everboy wondered how that could be -- and Andy pointed at his head and his heart -- "This is where music is, they can't take that away from you. Have you never thought about music this way?"

It is just such an inspiring and in inspiriting film. Wow.

"Worst film"
You have never seen "Dirty Dancing"?

The short Steven King story (Different Seasons) the movie was based on kicks ass.
Those movies based on King's books never turn out that great.

Two films that were bad "Ghost" and...
"The Blair Witch Project" I should really start a poll on this one asking how many people felt conned when they actually paid to see it or rent it out, or even buy it.

In March 1995 I had a hard time deciding between Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption as my Oscar pick. I thought Pulp Fiction was one of the most brilliant pieces of cinema I'd seen in a long long time, but Shawshank just got me somehow. Rosa's comment about the music is dead on. That bit really touched me.

I find it interesting that "King of Horror" Stephen King's actual horror stories so rarely make good movies (I did like Christine and Kubrick's The Shining) but his non-horror or more psychological dramas (Misery, The Body AKA Stand By Me, Shawshank, Green Mile, etc.) end up being really incredible movies.

It was an OK movie but not that great. It is worth watching if it were on TV but I wouldn't rent it again. The Traveling Executioner was a good movie also to view but not to buy.

this is obviously a joke thread

I just want everyone to know that this is honestly not a joke thread. I am 100 percent serious, I declare the Shawshank Redemption to be the worst movie ever made. Here are the reasons:

I HATE HATE HATE the name. SHAW-SHANK?? The word just makes me want to puke. SHAWSHANK SHAW SHAW SHAW SHANK, uuugh. The word "redemption" just does not sound right following it.

But the MAIN reason is, is because everyone talks about how great it is. I refuse to ever see it and due to the terrible name and the way people are constantly talking about how great it is instead of cool movies, such as Return of The Jedi.

I will never ever ever ever see this piece of trash and will speak about how much I hate it until the day I die.

And NO this is not a joke.

Shawshank Redemption is overrated and totally fails to match the book but "Return of the Jedi"?
That's cool?!?
Ever see "Ghost World"?

You know, to talk trash about a movie correctly, and have substance to your arguments, you should watch the movie. Before you go aganist a movie, i think you should at the very least watch the movie.

Hmm sounds like reverse peer pressure to me, how many people have blatantly not done something just because all their friends were doing it... :D

You have a right to believe that its a bad film, but i dont believe you should have a right to discourage others from wanting to see what i think is an amazing film, by making this thread and declaring it the worst film ever.

Go watch any of the movies mentioned on this web site http://www.badmovies.org/movies/
they are all prime examples of bad films with little or no plot.:m:

One movie I REFUSED to watch was Forrest Gump. I really did not want to see that movie because I couldn't stand Tom Hanks. I mean I really did not like him as an actor and everything he did up to that point. I finally watched the movie a couple of years later and I was blown away. I can honestly say today that it is my favorite all time movie.

I still refuse to watch "Forest Gump" to this day because of Tom Hanks.

I guess what turned me against him was "Big"- a total rip-off of teen fave "Freaky Friday" and they treated Hanks like he was (insert a really good actors name), and his constant high pitch yelps and whines (going "Hey?...Heeeeeeyyyy!").

I just cant believe that the goon that cross dressed on "Bosom Buddies" is now the BEST actor ever, like the hype machine says.

Your full of sh*t. That post sounds like something some little kid would post on a bulliten board, so that he could get the signifigance that he doesen't have in real life. See, you overcompensate trying to tell people off in these posts because thats where your lacking in the real world. I would suggest go checking out some self confidence books instead of trying to put other people down who can't punch you in the pimply face, which is what most people would do if you said what you just posted to me while standing in front of them.

Punching people in the face isn't smart. You can be arrested for it.
Being arrested isn't a good thing, and most people avoid it like the plague.

You're only claiming most people would do it and risk being arrested because you'll never be forced to prove it, especially here in a forum.

In other words, "your [sic] full of sh*t."

paulsamuel:

Such a strange misspelling of "asinine" from a brilliant scientist. You should've put a comma between that word and "stupid," also.

I declare you to be an idiot!
Thanks for your "stupid assinine [sic] opinion," by the way.

You sound like a total geek. You can't be arrested for that, but ironically, most people also avoid it like the plague.

I think that I would rather risk being arrested for getting into a fight than not risk getting arrested and end up looking like a nerd. So basically, your snood little opinion didn't really do anything for me, but thanks anyway.

I was not too fond of shawshank redemption, I thought it was too boring, and having written scripts myself, I am not very tolerant of constant voice-over narrative. It's annoying, and unimaginative. As any scriptwriter, or a film critic with script-sense, will tell you: SHOW, DONT TELL

That's interesting.

You'd rather be sued or land yourself in prison than not and look like a nerd.

Tell me, do you like giving your money to strangers, or do you enjoy homosexual anal sex?

Tell me, what do you think posting on an internet forum makes you look like, a machoman or a nerd?

EDIT:

My "snood [sic]" opinion doesn't matter?

Well, maybe it matters to you that you've shown, once more, that "your [sic] full of sh*t."

The SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION is the best movie ever, one of my favourite favourites. It's got a great plot - book written by Stephen King, great acting - Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins are awesome, the sound is amazing. It's just an almost perfect film. Really well-done movie!

very true also, Forrest Gump is also an awesome movie. I guess what's good about the film other than its phenomenal acting performance by Hanks, is the script or story, oh and music too! What's also interesting about this movie is that when you sit down and start watching it, you don't ever get bored of it (at least I don't), like you would just watch it til the end. Each scene is nicely and smoothly linked to the next scene. and the music is absolutely brilliant for the film. Good job forrest!

WORST movie ever for me was a flick by Seagal:
"Out For A Kill"

most of his cornier movies are usually very entertaining; witty one liners and his laid back fighting style is always hilarious. But this one just went too far. I recomend that you go and watch it, you just have to see it to beleive it.

Shawshank Redemption is in my top five, Robbins and Freeman are awesome.
Also:
-Donnie Darko
-Fight Club
-Boondock Saints

Did somebody DARE mention Boondock Saints? This is a true story, I swear. My ex-girlfriend rent that damn movie, it was all she would ever talk about. So one night, we rented THE ROCK (A FABULOUS movie, one of my favorites) and her stupid Boondock Saints. Well, her friends were there and they were talking the entire time throughout The Rock which was REALLY pissing me off.

So, we put in Boondock Saints and her stupid friends tried talking through that. WELL she was not having it. She wouldn't let them say a word. That is when I said "Well it is getting late, i have to go" and since then, I have vowed, much like The Shawshank Redemption, NEVER to see Boondock Saints and to hate it until the day that I die.

So thankyou for reminding me ceoceo, I hate SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION because of my nerdy old friend who I hate now used to talk about it all the time, AND BOONDOCK SAINTS because of the situation that night with my ex-girlfriend.
